Default Housing in Redmond area

What local newspapers in Redmond list rentals by private owners, as oppoed to apartment complexes? What are the nice neighborhoods / communities within a reasonable commute to Microsoft, possibly by public transporation? Also, are there any communities with older homes? Also, which neighborhoods / areas are not susceptible to flooding when there is heavy rain. I am from the East Coast and know about neighborhoods where the streets flood vs. neighborhoods that are on slightly elevated ground.

Hi! and welcome!

Rentals
NWSource. See the map? Click Eastside for that, or Seattle, and drill down from there:
NWapartments: Seattle apartment rentals, house rental listings, rental classifieds and other property rentals in Seattle, Tacoma, Bellevue and other Washington areas, cities and neighborhoods

Seattle Weekly -- it's not just about Seattle:
Seattle Classifieds

Craigslist:
craigslist: seattle-tacoma classifieds for jobs, apartments, personals, for sale, services, community, and events

You might find individual owners on apartments.com, maybe rent.com and forrent.com

What are the nice neighborhoods / communities within a reasonable commute to Microsoft, possibly by public transporation?
Redmond, Bellevue, Kirkland, maybe Woodinville, maybe Issaquah, depending on how far away in each. All provide public transportation to MS. MS has its own "Connector" coach routes, expanding all the time. Here's their map. Click to enlarge:

Older homes
Kirkland, and they may be more expensive. Here and there in Bellevue, not so much in Redmond but possible. Woodinville, yes. Issaquah, probably hardly any.

Flooding
Issaquah Creek floods with happy regularity. Here and there in Woodinville, depending on what river is near, but not much or often. Flooding usually occurs at lower elevations, as you point out; the "east side", all those cities I mentioned, are generally at slightly higher elevations than the places that flood, with the mentioned exceptions.

Tons of info
There are so many useful threads in the "Seattle" forum about choosing where to live to work at MS. If you click "Search" near the top of every City Data page, Search Forums click Advanced Search, Search Forums Key Word(s): type Microsoft. Search in Forum(s) scroll down and under Washington click on Seattle area, click Search Now -- and a veritable cornucopia of information will appear!

Have fun planning!

Re: older homes in Issaquah. There are currently 13 homes for sale in Issaquah built before 1960, and 6 homes for sale built before 1940. Issaquah is an old town, as is Kirkland, but in the name of "progress" most of the cool old homes have been torn down to make way for ugly houses that all look alike. There are currently a couple of old Issaquah houses on acreage. Most of the Issaquah homes are not on Issaquah Creek, which is pretty to walk alongside, but maybe not to live on.
