Consider your situation
Well , Seattle does only have an African-American pop of 8.4%. That says a lot to even educated Black folk. Those stastitics don't appeal to majority of Black Americans because virtually all their families are in the deep South and they want to be closer to them. And you are talking about the northwestern coast of the U.S. To most average Black people the mere thought of moving out anywhere out there is to leave their roots in their mids registering "ALASKA. CANADA. Wilderness. Moose. Grizzly bears. Fisheries. SNOW". I know until I was 15 and learned better, I honestly didn't think hardly anyone of any color lived up out over there, let alone Black folks. Please, don't be angry with the statement. It's all foreign land to them. For me, I know the bulk of my roots are well below the Mason-Dixon(Dixie) line and are quite close to the Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico than they are even the eastern bank of the Mississippi. Just like u, they want to be with their people. Yheir roots are there also. That means a lot to them.
My late aunt moved out to California from Alabama in the 1970s and my dad(her own brother)wouldn't go to see her because she lived in Cali because he feared earthquaks and being inundated with gay people and gang-bangers. And even though Cali has way more Blacks than Washington, when I was in Northern Cali, I really had to go out of my way to be with them. And talk about being cliquish and cold...I didn't even make friends with a single black person out there because I was from the South. They snub you, with no recourse. You would think NYkers do that. On the contrary! Talk about culture shock. It is not family-oriented at all. Our families out there are not tight-knit. This is why most blacks don't move there or leave after living there for some time.
On the other hand, I would love to come visit Seattle, and I hope the Blacks as a whole are nothing like what I experienced in Cali.

No matter how few blacks the Seattle area has, we are here and believe it or not there is lots of history with black Seattle. As far as being snubbed, you won't. Most of the blacks that are from Seattle have deep roots to the south. That is where most of the area blacks moved from. Talked to any older african american in Seattle and I guarantee you they will tell you they came here from Arkansas, Alabama, Texas, Louisiana or Mississippi.

There are some black people but it seems to me that outside of predominantly black areas, the black people do not stick together. There is a lot of interracial dating, which is fine but it seems like black people don't want to be with one another. I am surprised when I see an all black couple.

I am an African American new to the Pacific Northwest. I have been underdiagnosed with Grave's when I actually have Lupoid Sclerosis and Grave's as a consequence. Do you know of an African American Doctors in the Pacific Northwest? I am in dire need of a black doctor before these doctors who do not understand black physiology cripple me. Any help would be much appreciated.Sincrely,Loretta Floyd (floydloretta@comcast.net)
