My husband is interviewing with a company located in Issaquah. What are some of the areas around Issaquah that would be a great place for young kids. School district is very important. Both of our boys are still in elementry. I started looking at houses but I think Issaquah is out of our range. Thanks

I live in Issaquah Highlands, and chose it for it's family friendliness. You might consider renting here, and then you could get to know the area and surrounding areas. Also, there are parts of Renton that are within the Issaquah school district that are less expensive than Issaquah. I'm sure Ira will chime in with some suggestions.

V. =)

I was just going to second what VeronikaW said: Look at those parts of Renton that are within the Issaquah school district, which is mostly the eastern Renton Highlands...also not too far south of Issaquah is Maple Valley, which is in the Tahoma school district, and is a very good one. There are also parts of Renton in the Tahoma district, and, although there are some good schools within the Renton school district, the Renton school district as a whole may be getting better but it's still thought of as pretty bad.

Homes in Renton that are for sale and in the Issaquah school district certainly emphasize that fact in advertisements. Reminds me of San Jose, where a home that happens to be in Cupertino's highly regarded district can command a premium.

I've seen the new developments out in Snoqualmie, on the way to the falls. Does anyone know if these tend to be more expensive than Issaquah? What about schools?

On second thought, that might be a little far from Issaquah...

Price-wise, Renton is probably most affordable. I have been noticing they have been trying really hard to be family friendly, but school-wise, they don't have the best rep, and people often move when they h ave kids.

If you are looking for family stuff to do, here is a website I like for the Issaquah/EAstside area: Ruby Slipper Guide to the Eastside
