My husband and I want to move our family to the West Coast from the Northern VA/DC area (he is from SoCal and I'm originally from Seattle (20+ yrs ago). We are very active and love the outdoors (big skiers and boaters) so Seattle seems like a good place to start... but my hubby is hesitant becuase of the rain (doesnt bother me since I grew up there)... anyhoo, I digress.

Who are the big IT employers in the Seattle area? Is the market dominated by mostly private/commercial offerings (like Amazon, Microsoft) or is there a large Gov't presence as well?

We are both cleared IT project managers

Also - any good Seattle-specific job sites or is Monster the best place to resource?

Thanks for any recommendations you can share!

The IRS and FBI have installations out here. If you desire to remain under the federal government's payroll, you can always start there. I'm afraid that there is not much else in the way of federal government presence.

Amazon, Microsoft, and Google are definitely the biggest employers. I know for a fact that Microsoft and Google are still hiring.

Seattle's Craigslist is always a good resource. So, too, are the respective websites for the Seattle Times and the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.

My hubby works for Amazon and they are hiring. If you want him to submit a resume he will. They are on a huge hiring spree right now. DM if you want his help getting your resume in the door!

Expedia.com and T-Mobile are both based in Bellevue and have large IT departments that are often hiring. If you're willing to do contract work, Volt and a few others always seem to have a ton of IT positions open though I'm not sure for which companies (I'd assume Microsoft and others).

You might also check out Olympia if you are interested in Government jobs. I am originally from the DC area, and the government jobs (and frankly, just the presence of government) is not like that in the Seattle, or Western WA area.... or anywhere else for that matter.
