Seattle does not root for BC teams, never has, never will. This regional "dream", is only in the minds of Canucks PR, it doesn't exist in Seattle. Heck, even NBC's Seattle affiliate delayed game 1 the other night.

Not this hockey fan. They knocked out the Blackhawks.

Sorry, Google Trends begs to differ! Set the search option to Washington State and compare the Vancouver Canucks' search volume vs that of ANY OTHER NHL team - the Canucks PWNS all in terms of NHL team searches emanating from Washington State and it's not even close!

Well, this reminds me of when I was teaching school. It seems our music teacher was single, boozed a lot and was a hocky fan. One morning he came to school with two black eyes, badly brused and had a split lip, -in short, he was in a mess, as though he got into the wrong end of a brawl. The story he told was that he was boozed up at a hockey game and got into the opposing teams cheering section. He was cheering for the wrong team.

On that note.....what is the level of enthusiasm for hockey in Seattle? Looking at the northern location and proximity to Canada, I would think it'd be a big thing.
One thing for sure, Vancouver learned to riot from us.

Referring to the WTO riots (personally, I blame the PDX'ers for that) and the Mardi Gras Riot.

Having 2 major riots under our belts (unless you want to count that one in 1886, then 3!), we're so hardcore.

You have to count 1886. Martial law was declared by the US government, ordered by President Grover Cleveland. Rioters always make a city look bad, even though it's only a tiny minority of the citizens doing the rioting.
1886 was armed citizenry rounding up Chinese residents of Seattle and forcing them onto boats back to China. The police were helpless against the rioters, hence the need for Federal intervention.
I was at the labor march during the WTO. After it disbanded there were a lot of strange looking people milling around with nothing to do and it felt creepy, so I went home. The police looked really bad there, too.
Secretary of State Madeline Allbright was trapped in her hotel, the hotel surrounded by demonstrators and the police keeping a hands off policy.
Then they decided to get tough, after the rioting and looting had already happened. They teargassed a bunch of senior citizens coming out of Godfather's pizza buffet on Broadway.
Mardi Gras was the last straw for the police chief, after Pioneer Square violence was allowed to go on by the police, and someone was shot and killed. Mayor Paul Schell was soon diselected.
I don't know if there was rioting here in 1917, when Seattle won the Stanley Cup in hockey.
