That was definitely the case when I attended A's games in Oakland (I'm actually a Giants fan).

Indeed it would kind of tarnish the "loveable loser" image of the Cubbies. I'm a White Sox fan myself, and although there was a minor bandwagon in 2005 after the White Sox won the series, Chicago will always be a Cubs town for the most part, even if the White Sox won 5 Word Series in a row!
The only people I know of that wear White Sox hats that aren't true fans are the homies who seem to be emulating N.W.A. and it's members who for some strange reason wore White Sox hats despite being from L.A. I found this trend to be funny rather than annoying like the bandwagon trends.
