Default Question re Harbours in Seattle

Hi everyone, I'm hoping someone out there can help me with my query.
I'm in the planning stages for my next trip to Seattle in April this year. Last time we were there we visited a harbour where the Fisherman's Memorial is....

1)can someone please tell me the correct name for the harbour?
2)does anyone know of a website that might be able to tell me the name of boats currently in port?

Now the reasons behinds the questions....silly really, but we are addicted to a TV show called 'Deadliest Catch' about the Alaskan Crabbing boats and notice that the vast majority of the boats featured in the show are based in Seattle and were just wondering if they would be around when we are.

Hoping some keen fisherman might be able to help us in our quest.

Hi Aussie!

I believe what you're referring to is "Fisherman's Terminal." Yes, there is a memorial there to honor those fishermen who have been lost at sea during the 20th century but I think the harbour you are asking about is Fisherman's Terminal.

It's located on Salmon Bay on the Washington Ship Canal (south side of the canal, on the opposite side of the canal from Ballard and just east of the (Government) Locks ...you'll see it on your left just before you get ready to cross the Ballard bridge) and is run by the Port of Seattle (a government agency).

I don't know if there's a website which will list the boats currently moored there or not. If I should run across such a site, I will let you know.

Here's a copy of the agency's latest Fisherman's Terminal newsletter ...it gives you some contact information there (I looked at the Port of Seattle website on Fisherman's Terminal but it didn't give any links to current boats moored there):

The "Locks" mentioned above are the Hiram M Chittenden Locks. Those are run by the US Army Corps of Engineers, and the locks are a tourist attraction by themselves. The website for that is http://www.nws.usace.army.mil/PublicMenu/Menu.cfm?sitename=lwsc&pagename=mainpage (broken link)

Thank you both for the replies. I think the boats I'm looking for might be based there, so I'll have to have a good look. That website was very helpful, thanks 'rocco. I might contact the Port and see if they keep records.
Last time I was there we spent some time down at the locks and the salmon ladder also, great stuff because I had never seen anything like it before.

The boats you're thinking of stand a very good chance of being where 'rocco describes, in Salmon Bay, with maybe a few in Lake Union. My sister-in-law is the office goddess for a small commercial fishing firm, and most of the boats she deals with are based there. I can't recall if her people do much crab fishing; most of what I recall her talking about is stuff like pollock, halibut, and salmon.
