3. Intelligent, progressive populace (not so much if you venture out of the city/burbs, especially east of the mountains)

4. Excellent arts/music scene

5. Easy access to outdoors

Cons:

1. grey skies can be tiresome at times

This number #1 pro can also be the #1 con if you hold any traditional values because there is little or no tolerance for those with traditional/conservative views.

Pros

1. Beautiful mountains and oceans
2. You can go to the eastern side of the state for sun and cold.
3. Seafood is good here
4. Easy access to airport for those jaunts out of town.
5. Boeing for jobs if you are not an IT person.

Cons.

1. Lots of two faced people.
2. Lots of low paying jobs,
3. Traffic sucks.
4. cloudy and cool (damp)for a long time each year.
5. Housing prices are ridiculous

I have lived here for over 20 years and I see a lot of good things but unfortunaltely it is becoming very over rated.

well it seems to me like every where you go there are people who think something is horrible and they can't deal with it, i live in Florida and am planning to move to seattle and everything you guys are saying about the rainy weather we here in Florida think about the constant heat and blazing sun, when it's 96 degrees with thick humid air taht you can barely breathe through you can't really do anything outdoors either and it storms here for most of spring summer and fall in the afternoons, the crime is bad, the schools are bad, the traffic is bad... My point here is that you can't go by what other people say and that there are places that are way worse than seattle, in my poinion seattle is one of the best cities in this country and i can't wait to finally get there.

That is right, I think this board is going to give you an idea of different opinions. My brother live in Tamps and has been here many times and he likes it down there becuase of the weather... It is what you make of it. I ride a motorcycle alot and if youdo not have rain gear it can be a bummer at time...lol.

IMHO, it is a large city that still thinks it is small and is having trouble try to keep the "old" Seattle alive. I always call it a wannabe San Francisco.

If you want to get a good look at the weather and traffic, try the Washington DOT traffic cameras.

WSDOT - Statewide Traveler Information

This will give you an idea of realtime weather and how is all over the state.

Interesting. I don't think traditional = conservative, necessarily. Anyhow....that's for another discussion. What's this about the lack of NEW houses being a con. ???? I think one of the pros of Seattle should be listed as:
1. Charming, established neighborhoods with older and historic homes (as opposed to the cookie cutter MacMansions that are plaguing SoCal).

1. It rains everyday as a matter of fact I think I see Noah building his ark right now.
2. We don't get 300 plus days of sun and super hot summers. It sucks that we can't use air conditioning 5-6 months out of the year.
3. To damn green. Too many flowers and trees. Seattle should be flat and brown.
4. People are way to liberal and free thinking.
5. It rains everyday. Having sun and no change in seasons is all that matters for a truly happy life.

Now for my modest proposal, I think everyone living in Seattle or any other place outside of the southwest where they don't get 300 plus days of sun should be abandoned we should all head to the southwest California, Nevada Arizona, New Mexico, Texas. These places are perfect with zero problems no why because they get 300 plus days of sun.
Its sunny these days in Seattle no?
