People here get uptight. It's part of the culture. If you move here, you will need to be able to roll with it or it will make you miserable. Despite the laid back attire, IMO this is not a laid back place (at least in terms of how I define laid back).

I have friends visiting from Florida and we spent the past several days doing the tourist thing around the area...they both commented more than once on how laid back Seattle is compared to Florida and the East Coast.

I do not find Seattle laid back at all...only in the clothes department! If laid back means wearing Keens and any form of water repellant garment from REI - then yes, Seattle is laid back.

But I'm from Calif (all over) and they know laid back, here it's very uptight. Everything has to be perfect - or just so.

I think it all gets back to what one defines as "laid back". There is a laid back appearance here in terms of less flaunting of material wealth and the casual dress code. I think one could describe the energy level here as "low key," but to me, laid back means when people don't get bothered by much and adopt an attitude of live and let live. I don't see Seattle as meeting that particular definition. Bringing it back to the information on this thread, it is interesting that people jumped all over the poster for being arrogant. If we were truly laid back, then it wouldn't have bothered people that this person thinks so highly of himself.

I suppose it is a matter of perception...Seattle has been characterized as having a "live and let live attitude" for as long as I can remember.

With the exception of Copenhagen, Seattle is in my opinion, much more laid back and has more of a live and let live attitude than any other place I've lived, including New York, Dallas, Austin, Houston, and Atlanta.

As I recall it was one poster who got upset with the OP, and I don't believe that person is a native of the area.

In the end, perhaps it is yet another one of those areas where the famous, live and let live attitude of Seattle has been eclipsed by the many transplants from other areas of the country...

If Seattle was any more laid back, it would be horizontal. People here sometimes seem aloof, but I like cracking eggs...or walls...or whatever barriers are there.

I apologize for my remarks....sometimes it is hard to tell when someone is kidding when you are reading the written word. You asked for help and I went on the offensive. That was wrong. Snap judgements and all that.

You sound confident and confidence is a lot better than apathy and uncertainty. I was harsh in my comments, but I look at what you wrote from my point of view and from how I would read & react to them as an interviewer. Then again....I'm not the one interviewing you, eh?

Good luck in your job search.

Once again - my apologies.

It's about 60 right now and raining here in Wisconsin. Just been lightly drizzling all day.

Man, I'll love Seattle.
