The Highlands
Does anybody know anything about The Highlands located behind the Seattle Country Club in the city of Shoreline (just North of Seattle). I know it is gated and very exclusive but I cannot find anything descriptive other than that on the internet. How many homes are in the development? Do you have to be a member of the Country Club in order to buy a house? What is the cost range for a house?
Is this the most elite place in the Seattle area... or is it Hunts Point or Medina or Washington Park? Any information would be much appreciated.mod cut: link removed

Reason: sorry, although an interesting site, it's considered promoting your website here on this board.

I've been to the Highlands
my wife has done some work up there, and I went to the UW with a guy who grew up there.
It's absurdly nice. Gargantuan, beautiful, classic (not McMansion) homes with incredible landscaping and panoramic views of Puget Sound.
Don't think you have to be a Seattle Golf Club member to live there, but you'd better have one hell of a lot of money. Houses don't go on the market often, and it's decidedly 'old' Seattle money. They tend to stay in the family, though I've seen them on the market with Windemere a few times.

I don't know the range for house prices there, but I saw a home listed there a few months back for 14 million dollars. The development was founded by CD Stimson, who was a timber and real estate baron, and is the original Seattle " old money" place, designed by the Olmsteds. Hunts Point has lots of people with money, but it's not quite the same " old money elite."

I used to live in The Highlands as a kid-- grew up there 62-68. You'll find homes of some of Seattle's best known historic families-- Boeings, Nordstroms, Issacsons (Issacson Steel) etc. Houses are for sale-- in fact I just saw the place I lived in come on market today--http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/photos/48860500_zpid/
Beautiful area, very private.

Seattle is very quiet when it comes to displaying wealth (unlike a couple of states to the south). It simply is not flaunted. Not the Seattle style. With that having been said, The Highlands is probably THE most exclusive neighborhood in the metro area. There are other very expensive areas, Laurelhurst, Windermere, Mercer Island and Magnolia, but The Highlands is probably tops.

I would say Medina is not the most exclusive neighborhood, though it is home to some of the wealthiest people in the the country. The fact is there are some dated homes in Medina and many people have locally average incomes. The wealthy neighborhoods around here tend to be really small. Medina is not "gated" by any means, though the cops will pull you over if you don't look like you belong there. Hunts Point has some stunning homes, I grew up with a lot of kids from the Gold Coast area (I lived closer to downtown Bellevue).

I thought it was Broadmoor, but after reading that a house in the Highlands listed at 14 million, the 2 million dollar home my friend lived in doesn't seem that pricey at all.
