Seattle was a grittier place then, but not really cold and dingy. I have 50 years of memories from all of those pictures. Even a place I used to each lunch every day in 1969.

Thank you very much for the pictures!

And some later... signs indicated the late 1980's...

The pictures of Tacoma on that link are good. Tacoma truely was gritty during the eighties and nineties. Unfortunately now that Tacoma has been gentrified, places like Spanaway and Lakewood are suffering.

Until 1977 Seattle was actually quite livable. Sadly, the musical tribute that Perry Como paid to Seattle in 1969 no longer fits the city.

I can relate to people talking about how it actually HAD character, you can feel it in those pics. Today it is more of "The place too be".
There's good and bad in that.
Honestly, I find this ridiculous. Seattle is plastic? Seattle has no character?

I thoroughly enjoyed looking at all these pics. I must say, though, other than hairstyles and prices, it doesn't look like Seattle's changed all that much.

Few more skyscrapers, a little more crowdy and busy today. I recognized a lot of the old buildings and some of the vintage signs are still there today.

Thanks. I have very good memories of Seattle in the 1970s. The so-called rough parts of the city were very kind compared to today. Even in the 1980s it was a nice place. Now it's still the same but a lot different. My dad grew up in Seattle and never talks about it.

I went to school with the Filipina lady in that first link. Primero family. Lots of girls. They farmed flowers in Kent. About the 10th picture down. I swear that has to be her. They were always at Pike Place.
