2 bedrooms to share adjoining closet?
I live in King County in Washington State. We want to move the washer and dryer upstairs, but all new plans will take space from 2 bedrooms. Can I put one closet between the 2 bedrooms with a door from each room on it - a jack-and-jill closet - or is there even such a thing?

I'm not sure exactly what you're asking, but you could probably remove the closet from one room, and just market it as an office. I'm not sure if that would make the place more attractive than a jack and jill closet or not. Depending on how many bedrooms are in the house, removing a closet from one might affect the resale value, but I think a shared closet would also affect it.

I'm not sure I understand your post, but I've never heard of a "jack and jill closet".
It sounds like making two bedrooms into what will functionally be adjoining rooms with a pass-through alley (closet) between them. Since there will be, essentially, no privacy on either side of the alley/closet, it sounds as though that whole space would become a very large one bedroom.
If you're thinking of eliminating a closet from a bedroom --
REAL ESTATE RULES:
Rooms without their own discrete closets are not bedrooms.
Fewer bedrooms lower the resale value of the house.

"Jack N Jill" closets are two closets in a room, not 2 rooms sharing a closet. The name referencing one for the man one for the woman. At least where I am from thats how its used. Why not just put the wsher/dryer in one of the closets, that way if you ever sell you can still sell that room as a bedroom.

I called the building permit people at the city - they said one shared closet is fine, the closet has to have 2 doors, one open to each room =) Thanks for your responses!

Depends on why you are asking. City says you are allowed to do it and they'll issue a permit to do it.
Real estate people would discourage you from doing it because it will lower the resale value of your house. No way would I pay full price for two bedrooms that shared 1 closet.

Another alternative could be to buy a freestanding 'closet' from Ikea to place in the closet-less room. At the moment we live in Europe and it's very rare to find a bedroom with a built in closet. If you are worried about the value of your house, you could always build a closet that took up room inside the room, ie. put up a few walls so one wall of the room is a little smaller but has a closet built in.
