The original discussion was comparing Vancouver to Seattle and what Seattle had that Van doesn't and then all of a sudden it was Seattle is not world class because of this and that. I did highlight the things that Seattle has accomplished just as you have highlighted what you think is good about where you live. I have been to both Toronto and Boston (my sister lived in Newburyport MA and Portsmouth NH) and enjoyed them both very much. This is my opinion, it doesn't have to be yours but to me any city is REAL if that city provides you with what you like to experience in your everday life. For you it might be lots of early American colonial history and good thin crust pizza, a Jewish deli around the corner etc.. For me it might be a great Americano, a toke of PNW grass and a sunset view of Mt.Rainier.
P.S. - I've lived here 13 years and have seen the changes taking place. Do I love them all? NO--Do I like some of them?--Yes Do I hate some?--Yes Do I still love living here? I do.

There are a rare couple places you can check out. One place is Romio's near Silver Lake.
The other is a place called Stellar Pizza & Beer. It's in Georgetown and a NYC friend of mine loved it. Not authentic by any means, but it's thin crust and in order to eat it without a fork and knife you have to fold it up, adn the taste is wonderful.
I'm from Chicago so it's hard for me, a pizza snob, to compliment anything outside of Chicago pizza as "great"... this is no exception, but it is "really good" and that's the highest compliment of non-Chicago pizza I've ever given. So ... I think it's worth checking out.

Jewish deli around the corner may be hard to find, but Seattle is making strides in the pizza arena. Stellar IS good, but I like even better Flying Squirrel at 5oth and Genessee near Seward Park. It has that slightly charred crust that you can pick up and fold.
So, if you can get the pizza, the Americano, the Mt. Rainier view, and the toke, 4 out of 5 ain't bad. It's a pretty good combination all around.

To me, Seattle is a world class city. I lived there for 33 years. I loved it and miss it terribly. Don't miss the traffic!

Not to nitpick but Trenton style isnt like that Seattle stuff at all...a traditional Trenton pizza puts the tomato sauce on top of the cheeze. Also a little thicker crust... (my roomate at college was from Flemington...he swore by it along with the infamous Taylor Pork Roll)
Also the Trenton Za usually involves a conventional oven...New Haven is wood fired (really hot coals)...thats what burns the crust. Pepes and Sallies have that oven going early morning...
The (attempted) thin crust is more a NY design. Crust is crucial if you are going to fold...Trenton style is delicious tho.

I know, I know, Seattle pizza is nothing like Trenton style, but....Papa's in Trenton is the second oldest continually operating pizzeria in the US, and they have always had a wood fired oven, and I believe the original DeLorenzo's does too but dang! This Flying Squirrel pizza at 50th and Genessee is as close as Seattle comes. Most Seattle pizza I'll leave over some of the crust since I'm on a cardboard free diet, but Flying Squirrel's got it goin on.
