Ideas for Visitors
Hi,
Would you have any suggestions on where we could take our 20+ year old daughter and her friend while they are here for a very brief visit in October? Without the travel days, we only have 2 full days. My daughter has visited before and would like to return to Pike's market and the downtown area again which we are planning to do. Besides the Space Needle and the EMP, are there other places fun to see or things to do? Perhaps a ferry ride but to where?
Thanks for any ideas you can share!

When we had visitors this summer, they really enjoyed taking the ferry to Bainbridge Island. There are shops and restaurants there, and it's a pretty quick trip.
Seattle / Bainbridge Island Ferry Schedule
The ride back offers a fabulous view of the Seattle skyline also.

The public farmers' market in downtown Seattle is called Pike Place Market because the street it's on is Pike Place.
A wonderfully unique Pacific Northwest experience and the fullest experience with a boat ride, would be going to Tillicum Village. The ride is 45 minutes, and don't forget it will be quite chilly in October. The boat will take you to Blake Island to a Native American village, where you'll experience Native American performances and a fabulous salmon bake with lots of seafood. There's time to stroll along the beach or visit the gift shop before the boat trip back to Seattle. Reservations are necessary, and you can make them online.

You could also take the ferry to Bainbridge Island, or Bremerton, or even Whidbey Island.

We take family usually on the ferry trip to Bremerton because it is a longer ride. Then we do a drive on the peninsula and see where we wind up... found some nice spots along Hood Canal. I like Scenic Beach State Park over there, for exampe.
Then we drive back up through Bainbridge Island, see it, and take the ferry from Bainbridge back to Seattle

It is Pike Place Market, not Pike's Market. If you're going to take a ferry ride, Winslow/Bainbridge is your best bet. If you just want to get on the water, hop on the Elliott Bay Water Taxi.

There's quite a bit to see within walking distance of Pike Place Market. My wife and I did not rent a car and had a wonderful vacation walking in downtown Seattle. There's Pioneer Square, the International District, Belltown, the Waterfront. Queen Anne has several funky shops to check out. Plus there's more to see at Seattle Center beside the Needle and EMP. Depending on what your daughters interests are you should be able to find everything your looking for in close proximity to your hotel if you're staying downtown, which I would recommend if you only have 2 days. We stayed at the Roosevelt which was very nice. I would assume it still is, though it was 4 years ago.

Thank you for the wonderful suggestions and correcting my oversight of calling it Pike's Market versus Pike Place Market.

Regarding Pike Place Market: I have family coming in this weekend and we're to show them around, but new to the area ourself. Where is the best place (cheapest) to park if we want to walk around for an hour or two on a Saturday morning?
We also want to take the Bainbridge island ferry (not sure if we're taking the car yet), and have reservations at the Space Needle for dinner.
Is there any way around having to pay to park at the market, pay to take the ferry, pay to park on Bainbridge Island, pay to take the ferry back, and then pay for the valet at the space needle? That seems very excessive to me and the itinerary is pretty set as that's what my family wants to do...
If we didn't live in Redmond I'd suggest taking the bus to Seattle and trying out public transportation for the day.

The Pike's Market, er, Pike Place Market garage is not all that expensive. It's on Western Ave.
One other possibility would be to find a cheap lot like this one:
Seattle Center Parking
and then take the Monorail downtown (assuming it's running ). We used this lot recently when we went to the Pacific Science Center to see the Batman movie on IMAX.
We've never had to pay for parking on Bainbridge.
