Default hotels/neighborhoods?

I am coming to Seattle to research a move for my family and am looking for places to stay that would be safe and not hugely expensive (over $100 is expensive). Motel 6 would be cheap, but I'm not sure if it would be particulary safe...says it is near the airport. Anyone got any advice? It doesn't have to be right in downtown... Thanks!

This might be a useful resource. Real travelers give their reports on their experiences. This link will open on Seattle hotels. You can compare prices and "ratings" based on consumer reviews.

When I came to Seattle for my birthday in dec 06, I bid on priceline and for 90 dollars a night I stayed at the Sheraton downtown,a 4 star hotel which was going for almost $300 a night, i believe....

So I'd bid before staying at an expensive but low-quality motel.

Springhill Suites in Renton is a good value for the money, as is the Days Inn South Seattle/Seatac, and north of downtown the University Hotel is a good value.

When we visited Seattle for the first time we stayed downtown but that ended up to be more like a vacation than a fact-finding trip. When we moved up here we ended up about 45 minutes from Seattle in Des Moines because of the high prices closer in and my job was in that area.

I mention that because downtown and Des Moines are very different places and our trip up here to investigate a move didn't really prepare us very well. You might be able to improve on our efforts by learning as much as possible about this area and then spend your time here looking at where you'll most likely live and work.

There is a motel 6 in Issaquah (nice suburb about 15-20 miles east of downtown Seattle).
