Default Festivals? Vacation ideas?

I am looking to try to get a trip together for my family to visit Seattle. I am actually looking to the future when I hope to move out of southern California. But I know the "feel" of a place can be quite different than just Googling a bunch of pictures. So I thought I'd start doing some traveling here and there...mini-trips.

Since Seattle is so far and would obviously require airline tickets (I don't think we could have both small children in the car for days), I would need a very good excuse to get us all up there. Are there any festivals or anything like that, especially in the fall? (HempFest is out of the question... Anyway, DH confesses he's already done that, ahem, trip...back in college...)

Any ideas would be just great. I really would love to get my family up there and case the joint.

In the summer, there is almost always some sort of festival going on... but in July is The Bite of Seattle - busy, but fun...

Oh, most school districts go till late June (around the 20th, on average) so June is a pretty quiet month.
