People are people, why do most people have to belong to something to feel secure rather than being secure within yourself. The jones keeping up with the jones mentality is a disgrace and has seriouisly damaged this country and hurt what should be a great country.The average college educated student is nothing more than a brainwashed stump with little free and critical thinking ability aka common sense.College does not teach people what a good life should be or how to have a good career,earning money in a way that does not use or take advantage of others.Living in a place like seattle may teach you this.Steretypes are not fantasy and people should be proud of their heritage and who they are, not of being an American.What do liberal and libertarian people genuinely value and appreciate?Have they sincerely worked hard and earned their liveliehoods?Were they careful in having their children and did they do their best to represent a good example for them?The common American's sense of priorities is so out of whack it makes us a joke and an example of what not to be to many other parts of the world.I'm not buying the human excuse, but i will fight evil and stand up for what i know is good.

But what are the negatives to Seattle?
Traffic can be really, really, bad. Housing costs are way too high. And it's hard to find really good pizza.
Papa Murphy's pizza is GREAT!..

What a strange question. Since you don't seem to know any liberal or libertarian people to ask them, I'll volunteer my responses (not in ranked order):
* My country
* People from other countries
* My family, especially my wonderful husband and beautiful children
* My church and God
* My career, and especially my current job as I feel grateful to have it in this recession
* My health
* My education
* My community/neighborhood
* Justice, rights for all humans, the planet's well-being, freedom, responsibility
* Books and learning
* Technology

I'm not sure what this has to do with Seattle but I value Seattle, too.

Why are you lumpting liberals and libertarians together? Libertarians value freedom - everything else stems from that.

I can't imagine two groups that are more opposite in ideology than libertarians and liberals. Libertarians believe in minimum government. The only issues those two may agree on is things like decriminalization of pot (even though, sadly, many liberals are still not completely sold on that).

What is evil and good to you may be polar opposites to some.

Our "terrorists" today are freedom fighters to others. George Washington led a rebellion of "terrorists" against the British crown and won. Today we regard them as heroes. If the revolution had been quashed, I would assume today we would be a lot like Canada, or have been split into New England & Southern Canada be the current North of the USA.

The terrorists of today could be rationalized as being the offshoot of decades of imperialist thought and expansionism of American values (money, mostly). I'm not saying that killing civilians is ever correct and totally disrespect those who do. Those are true "terrorists".

As a libertarian, I value freedom of choice in all matters personal and with minimal government interferance. I value small government whose only job is collective self defense and doling out monies for the public good. I am for using technology to enhance our competitiveness. I am for quality education with pay rates rivaling that of engineering and scientists, and STRICT, HIGH QUALITY standards. No more ditzy Sally who graduated on an education degree and partied every Thursday with the frat boys teaching my kids how to read and write. She can stay in the Starbucks - unless she worked hard to demonstrate her worth. I value having religion and government be separate and only connected at times of serving the greater humanitarian good. I am for individual states' rights (actually for Confederation, myself).

Self determination and willpower and intelligence should dictate who are our leaders. Not flimsy philosophical bantering with pandering to business interests.

Eskercurve, in some ways you make a lot of sense, EXCEPT, please bear in mind that most of these "terrorists" are completely irrational and fanatical religiously brainwashed "humans". To them it is much more about waging holy war than correcting some perceived "imperialistic" injustice. This was not the case with the American revolutionaries, and for you to equate them is ludicrous. Anyway, we really have NOT been imperialists, but rather, we have acted as the world's police force. That's a very big difference, but causes the same kind of external spite. Even if we had not been acting like a police force, the very fact that we've sent hundreds of millions of dollars in aid to Israel over the years is enough to make us the target of jihad, no "imperialism" required. I'm not going to dictate what we should or should not have done, but those are the facts. Not sure what this all has to do with "Is Seattle worth it?" though!

I just migrated to Texas barely 2 years now. Its been tough and seriously contemplating moving to Seattle to stay with family to save on bucks and looking for new and better opportunities... After reading this forum, I don't know if its still worth trying..

I think Seattle is worth it when compared to other US cities: more beautiful, less sprawl, not crazily expensive, very diverse.

Looking a bit north I think cities of Vancouver and Toronto are much better than any US cities. =)

(This claim is backed up by every global study so please don't slaughter me.)

I came from LA and I have been here for almost 19 years.
Weather here is changing. Last year we had record showfall and this year, it has only rained once or twice since the middle of May. I have never seen a summer like this. Does that mean another harsh winter? I hope not.
Seattle the city is full of diverse young professionals plus all the other elements that make up city life. When you go out to the suburbs, especially up north, you run into what some call the Seattle Freeze. These are people who grew up here and are set in their ways. That does not mean they are not kind and friendly, it just means that you have to conform to their ways rather than them trying yours.
After spending the first 40 years of my life in LA, I found from the first day I arrived in this area that people were polite and helpful in a way they are not in most of the country. I have seen people stop on the freeway after an accident and risk their lives to drag people out of cars that are on fire.
If you break down on the side of the road, you can be assured that someone will stop to help you. Your neighbors will keep an eye on you without trying to become a member of your family.
When you stop at a stop sign, someone will always wave you on or you will do the same. If you are dealing with a burden, someone will help you with it.
Seattle is what community is all about in my opinion.
