Alderwood is the nearest, most convienent shopping area to most of Bothell and very comprehensive. Just a quick trip up the 405.

It's all a matter of taste. Bothell is not dangerous, and it's in a good school district, but it doesn't have the status of Woodinville. There's a really pretty and very nice area near St. Edwards state park with both Bothell and Kenmore addresses, all in the Northshore district.

Where did Bothell get a bad repuation from?

Not really. Bothell is more if a "bedroom" community. As the previous poster mentioned, you are in such close proximity to so many malls in the area. In addition you have Woodinville to the south, and the new shopping center in Mill Creek just to the north. I guess if pressed and you wanted to shop in Bothell, there is always Country Village.

Are there really any "bad" neighborhoods in the Seattle area? I've yet to see anything that compares to a bad neighborhood in other large metro areas i've been in. There is NOTHING here that compares to bad parts of the Denver area. Even Salt Lake City has worse neighborhoods than Seattle does. (at least that i've seen)

Is the commute from woodinville to bellevue more than 45 minutes? I will be deciding on whether I will be moving out there in the next week. For the first year, due to many people's suggestions, I will be renting a house closer in bellevue until we figure out where we want to live. I have found several places in Woodinville that I like in my price range and things in Bellevue at that price range are significantly older and just not for me. Kirkland was not an area we were interested in either. We just want to know that the areas we have seen houses we like in are doable before we make the move.

Hi, Maybemoving. Woodinville is as ckise to "rural" and "country" as you can get that close to Seattle and Bellevue. I love Woodinville. Quiet, horsies, cowies....
If you're not going from the northeastern end of Woodinville to the southwestern end of Bellevue, yes you should be able to do that commute in 45 minutes. Prolly less, once you get used to choosing routes.
Please hear this: You do not want to figure on driving the highway marked 405. Ever, even on weekends except very early Sat. and Sun. mornings. For the several commuting hours on weekdays, 405 is a parking lot. Not a 35mph parking lot, a 5mph parking lot.
Having said that, I congratulate you on your wisdom in choosing somewhere near work to live for many months, until you get a feel for where you want to be and what that commute would be like. And take a look in Bellevue anyway; most of that "older" is actually charming with sturdy character.

There is only one Bothell (two Ls) in WA. It's in King County.

In any event, since this is an old thread the OP already got the info requested.

And Maybemoving......I live in Bothell about a mile from the Canyon Park exit on 405, I communte to Bellevue in about 30 minutes during high traffic times. Without a lot of traffic I can get there in about 15-20 minutes
