Looking for a good Italian Market/Deli
So, back home we have this amazing Italian market/deli/bakery called Claro's. It's really fantastic. While I was there this weekend, all I could think was how great it'd be if there was something like that up here in the Seattle area.
So, is there a good Italian market/deli around somewhere? And please don't say that place on Rainier Blvd., that place is godawful. I want a real Italian market run by Italians.
Anyone?
Thanks in advance!
v. =)

How about Salumi, on Third Avenue? Mario Batalli's dad.
Nothing can compare to my beloved Genova, down in Oakland, though.

No, Veronika, I don't think it exists, exactly, and i know exactly what you're looking for...But Salumi makes a good if overrated sandwich, Cucina De Santis on Holgate near Safeco field makes a good sandwich, Galliano's near seaTac airport on Military Rd bakes their own bread and has good pasta and sandwiches...DeLaurenti in the Pike Place Market has a large selection of things like olives, pastas, and sauces, but just doesn't have the right feel....Have you been to PFI on 6th avenue South near the International District? That's also not a classic Italian deli, but it is a gem, and they give samples of the many cheeses they carry..it's more like a wholesale to the public gourmet/International foods warehouse with concrete floors and no frills and great prices.

I've been to the Claro's in Arcadia and I think the closest you will find is DeLaurenti in the Pike Place Market. While not as large as a Claro's it does have a very large selection of cheeses, cured meats and has a nice deli.
Salumi in Seattle focuses on cured meats, and has an international reputation...but it is not really a deli in the traditional sense.

Thanks, guys! If I could give you all more rep, I would!
It's so weird to me to live in a big city that lacks a Little Italy area.
At least I got to fill up on Claro's while I was home.

Has anyone suggested Delaurenti's in the Pike Place Market? Not so much a deli as it is a specialty Italian/European market (meats, cheeses, oils, breads, wines, etc.)

Seattle should really work on making immigrant Italians move here just so we can have a little Italy.
