Reputation of UW
Hello..I'm new to this site...My friend is thinking about applying to medical school at University of WAshington-Seattle and I'm thinking about applying to graduate school at University of Washington - Seattle for healthcare administration...Can anyone tell me if UW has an excellent reputation nationally and internationally for healthcare services and medicine? I'm sure it does but I wanted to know what Washington and/or Seattle residents thought; I'm from out-of-state and just wanted other people's opinions..I heard that's it's very competitive!!!..Can anyone shed light on this?

UW's med school has one of the best reputations on the west coast. Excellent school, but a lot of the buildings for the med school are seriously rundown. Seems like an odd dichotomy. With such a great program, you'd think they'd put some money into updating, (or at least fixing), their buildings.
But you're completely right about the chances of getting in. It's insanely competitive. Check out some of the info on the Student Doctor Network forums.

UW medical school
The UW medical school has an excellent reputation. One of my sisters went there but, that was 25 years ago. It has maintained a wonderful reputation for decades though.

The medical school is ranked number 1 for primary care, and in the top ten for research (according to US NEWS rankings). It's hard to beat it in terms of reputation. I believe that most medical schools in the top 25 are pretty similar in their academic quality, so you definitely can't go wrong with UW.
You should keep in mind, however, that it is very competitive. In particular, if you're out-of-state, you have little to no chance of getting in actually to the medical school program (unless your application is just pure perfection). The school favors people from a five state area: WA, AK, ID, WY, and MT (it's the only school in these 5 states, so it serves as all of these states' "in-state" school). They take the trend of medical schools favoring in-state students over out-of-state to a more extreme level because they are serving such a large area/population.
I'm currently applying there for medical school right now, and I know I'm up against a great amount of competition. However, I'm applying for the MD/PHD program, which is more open to out-of-state applicants. Even still, while I'd love to go there, I know I have a very small chance of getting in.
I wish you the best of luck in this application process, but I do advise you and your friend do more research online at Student Doctor forums and also by reading some of the more comprehensive med school comparison books. If you decide that it's not for you, you'll have saved a good amount of time/money on applications; but if after doing all the research on the school you still want to try it out, you'll have a better idea of what you're getting into/going up against. Good luck!

Very familiar with U Dub medical center. Phenomenal medical school. Yes, it is internationally known. Maybe not on the level of Stanford, but super solid. I have no idea about competition/application process. I imagine their healthcare admin is superior too.

U-Duhb is definitely the best in the northwest. I've been very impressed with all my dealings with them. They basically saved my son's life.
For students, the area may be safer now that governor Gregoire kicked out all 3rd degree sex offenders in the area (seems a little unconstitutional but logical).

11th best in US hospitals this year US news.
I have been told that the Medical school takes mostly instate ( in this case it would it include the five state area since none of them have a medical school)
I interviewed there recently and it is a great place.
