Hello! First post. Well I am an AA living in Orlando and dying to get out of this city/ state/ side of the country. Lol. I'm in nursing school so when I'm done I can pretty much get a job anywhere FAIRLY easily so I was thinking of just packing up and moving to Seattle on my own. ( scary) anyway I am very excited about this and have been even more encouraged by some comments on here. Anyone know anything about port Angeles? I've heard its a nice place to live and have always wanted to live somewhere a bit smaller but close to a big city BUT am a bit weary because living in the south, small towns are typically a place I try to avoid. Anyway keep the thread up so I can keep reading please!

I hear that Port Angeles is a really nice place to live. I have some friends who lived there and they really enjoyed it. Ive only been once. For a while its been the only place to go through an Ethiopian adoption in the state of WA. (not sure why I've added this FYI, but I thought it was cool)
One place that I think is really neat is Port Townsend. Its very laid back and seems to have a cozy community feeling, not to mention all the cool architecture.
Good luck with your choice and congrats on getting your nursing degree.

One more question
Hey thanks for the response! I'll look up some more info on these cities. And I actually think that the adoption info is pretty interesting. Who knew? I do have another question. I have read that its is difficult to find friends/ date in Washington. Has anyone found this to be true. I'm in my 20s and although I am hardly a party animal its nice to have friends and options for dates you know. Anyway thanks again

The south is much more polite, many of the blacks here are more "thug" and gangsta than what you would see in the south. Maybe they feel they have to prove something. I am not sure. I have a lot of black friends and that is what they explained to me when we were having a discussion about it because we have all been to the south and noticed the blacks are different than the ones up here in how they behave etc.

Very true. I live in the South and I see more of a "gangsta" mentality in the South than I ever did see in the Pacific Northwest.

i just moved back to WA and rented a place in boulevard park (south of seattle).. which is i guess considered to be one of the worse 'hoods in the area. im not afraid to walk to the store at midnight for a beer or bag of chips or whatever.. and out of all my neighbors (i live in a 5 plex with 2 other 5 plexes grouped nearby) who are black, hispanic, indian, and white.. the only one that seems to be a problem, is (not surprisingly) the white lady who i suspect is dealing dope. point is... skin color tells you NOTHING about your neighbors.. just because someone looks different from you, doesn't mean they ARE different. I've yet to see a neighborhood i wasnt comfortable with late at night here, except i get a little edgy around belltown when confronted by the homeless and druggies

There's not jack in PA and Seattle is way far from there. Seriosuly, move to Tacoma if you want to live in a smaller town.

PA is pretty nice ofr a small town, but I think it's way too small for someone that is young and has a degree...espcially if you are single. The only thing going on there is the boat ride to Victoria, Canada (totally awesome place to visit) Just my 2 cents... Good luck on your move.

I am thinking about moving to the Seattle area this year. I currently live in Maryland, I have always lived on the east coast and feel it's time for a change. I have 2 13 years old kids, so I am looking for somewhere with a good school district. Can anyone tell me where would be the best place in Seattle and its suburbs to move to?

I used to live in Bellevue which is a fantastic area. Also you might want to look into the Issaquah/Sammamish area.
