I certainly didn't see any on the recent rankings by Black Enterprise as top best cities for black americans. there's still work to be done here to make this a more viable option for folks.
Get away from certain demographics? dcoolbro you do not know what you're talking about. I don't prefer Denver but I do prefer Vancouver BC, Seattle, San Francisco over anything back east. Again, like I told you before I've done the east coast thing so it was time to move on and experience new places and new people. The northwest is already on the radar for ALL professionals. It's up to black people to take a chance and discover new cities like Seattle. Many I know did and love it. Black Enterprise ignores the cities with low percentages of black residence. Year after year their picks are the same, just rearranged. And dcoolbro don't ever try to accuse me of escaping MY people. I know I'm black. Attended black schools from kindergarden through college and loved it and PROUD to be BLACK. You never did mention where you hail from. And whoever gave you the advice to move to Everett my friend, DO NOT take advice from this person ever again because you started out your new move all wrong.

"Black Enterprise ignores the cities with low percentages of black residence. Year after year their picks are the same, just rearranged" from pwright.

Can it be said that a magazine (any magazine) would want to keep, focus and recommend their reader demographic moving to certain cities where they have a built in consumer base, distribution and success? Where their advertising income is most focused from and supports their business of selling magazines and their advertisers businesses? So usually these "move to" lists are based upon where a magazine would like to maintain its readers.. Nothing wrong with that, but it can be a little biased for economic gain?....

Much in the same fashion that you wont see many bobsledding magazines in Phoenix because of low interest and low readership. And Bobsledding Monthly would not recommend Arizona as a top destination for its current readers in the frozen tundra or people in the bobsledd building profession. This may be off base....merely assumptions of capitialism.

What is the Business 101 rule..Location, Location, Location... This would also apply to who buys your products?

Im sure people much smarter then I will chime in...just a curious thought, not throwing stones at glass houses or magazine execs....

BTW pwright, keep those pics coming..rain or shine!! Dont listen to the haters!

There has been a sizable black poulation in seattle since WW2. I have some black middle class friends but I think that is far from the majority in the area. There is a pretty big/growing African population in Burien/Tukwila, however that is not really a middle class area.

But everytime I say I was born in Seattle dudes wanna laugh and clown my ass. Now I don't remember too much about Seattle but I know the areas where I lived.

I lived in Kent, Skyway, Tukwila, Federal Way, and a lil stint in Central District. What are these places like? What are the demographics?

I'm a little confused too because my family is poor. My mother was on Section 8 and we had all the public assitance you can think of in Atlanta yet I don't remember it being that bad in Seattle. We only could afford apartments but I don't remember it being as bad as it was down here.

I would really appreciate responses.

I think it has more to do with the fact that blacks from Seattle are often thought of as "not black enough". Sad but true. Many blacks don't even consider Seattle as a place to live. I'm black and I used to live there myself. I loved it and plan to go back. As for being clowned, I'm not surprised. There is alot of aversion towards Seattle in the eyes of many Atlanta residents, black and white.
