I know this is probably a shot in the dark, but does anyone have any recommendations for sex therapists and/or couples counseling in the Seattle area?

I am overwhelmed and fairly new to the area and could really use some good advice.

We are a gay couple but do not necessarily require gay counselors or therapists.

Thank you in advance!

~ XY

I know a terrific couples counselor who has a lot of experience working with both hetero and gay couples: Dr. Stacey Prince

Years ago I was in an internship program in a hospital that did joint trainings with the hospital where she worked and I was impressed by her. When I was in Seattle I referred clients to her and got good feedback about her.

Word of warning---anyone can hang out a shingle for a few bucks. Please research the person very carefully. I know of acouple therapists that have no education at all and no qualifications They look good on paper---just like politcians and will be happy to take your money.

Unfortunately, "therapist" is a really vague term, as is "counselor." To be a licensed psychologist who does clinical work in Washington State, it takes a Ph.D./Psy.D (7 to 10 years of education), thousands of hours of supervised experience, successful outcomes on competency tests that take hundreds of hours of study to pass, and ongoing continuing education in order to keep the license current.

Dr Price is no longer accepting new patients at this moment. Do you think the entire Associates of Behavioral Health is a reputable practice? There are many other therapists there I could inquire about. Thanks!

That's too bad - I guess that happens with the good therapists. Can Dr. Price give you her opinion about which therapists there are the best? I don't know any of her colleagues so I can't personally recommend one.

I e-mailed the Capitol Hill Medical associates for advice or recommendations, too. I will leave Dr. Price a voicemail to see if she would recommend another counselor who may be better suited dealing with sex therapy, etc.
