Question about shopping downtown
Hi. I'm visiting Seattle this weekend. My husband is going to the football game on Sunday and I'm hoping to do some Christmas shopping that day and maybe on Monday. We're staying at the Edgewater. I'm really interested in cute, unique gift shops (quirky, fun, different but not terribly expensive) and maybe some maternity and baby clothes. Also, any unique toy or train-related shops are a plus! I don't really care to hit the malls and larger retail stores. Could anyone please suggest where to focus my shopping efforts? What area has the best boutique type of shops? I need to be downtown or within a 15 minute drive. Thank you so much!

Another idea: the Edgewater is near Pike Place Market, which is filled with all kinds of quirky shops, plus there are more shops, including small boutiques, lining the streets outside the Market. Don't drive there -- parking is hell. Take a taxi from the Edgewater; it's not far but it's too far to walk.
Hours of nice restaurants, really yummy seafood, and shopping! Have fun!

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I've actually been to Pike Place Market. Are there better shops than in the three story building adjacent to the market? I think those are the only ones I've seen. My hubby is from Seattle, but he doesn't know where all of the good shops are. Also, does the Fremont area have good shops? Thanks!

Yes, there are delightful shops, including boutiques, on 2nd Ave. and 3rd Ave. just east of Pike Place Market.
Fremont has always said it's the center of the universe, and folks here generally think it's great fun to shop in the quirky Fremont stores. Try these:

I'd like to recommend a cool little boutique baby clothing shop on Post Alley in Pike Place. It's called Boston Street, and it has everything you need to turn your baby into a miniature hipster. Be warned, it is pricey.

It's really not that far...it's like 5 blocks over and 2-3 blocks up. It is pretty steep from Alaskan way up to Post Alley however, so it's a no-go if you get winded easily.

Toughhuy's right -- steep uphills end walking for me! Far too much work!

Well, maybe I'll get a cab to the baby store and then walk DOWN to Pike Place...LOL. I'm pregnant, so I get winded more easily these days. These are great suggestions. Thanks.

Yeah, it would be a bit much for a pregnant woman.
