Gangs.

And unless things have changed since I left, you also have a seriously underfunded police force and a joke of a judicial system.

Because people are dumb! It's nothing more than that. People are dumb and they are getting dumber every day. We enable dumb, allow dumb and promote dumb. We then wonder why people do dumb things like it's a big secret. I don't see it as that complicated. It's pure, unadulterated...dumb.

Examples:

1. A guy walks into a bank and passes a note asking for money. He gets the money. The risk to get the couple grand never equals the years behind bars they are going to get, so it's dumb to begin with. Then...a guy walks into a bank with a gun and does the same thing. He's going to get the money either way (gun or not), but now he gets 5 years tacked on for a gun enhancement. Even dumber. Now say he shoots someone. There's 25 years to life for a couple grand...really, really dumb.

2. Someone flashes "a sign" at someone. The one getting flashed shoots the other one. 25 years...dumb! ****Little secret for the tards that do this...When you eventually get out after your 25 years, you'll find out that friends talked about how bad-ass you were for like 2 days after you did it. Worth it?

3. Someone robs a mini-mart at gunpoint for about 300 dollars (something they will spend in about 2 hours). There's 5-10 years. Dumb!

4. Home invasion: Now you tack on burglary and kidnapping to your dumbness. There's a whole lot of years for a couple hundred dollars. Dumb!

5. Shooting at a cop for any reason. Dumb!

People want to be all "hard" (like the dudes doing 34 years for shooting the guy in Everett they thought was a cop...dumb). The truth of the matter is that some of the biggest pu$$ie$ are the ones doing this. They are such whimps that they feel it necessary to show their manhood by pulling a trigger (something a five year old can do). When you see some of these on video, they are usually hopping around like they are about to pi$$ their pants (because they are) while the close their eyes and pull the trigger.

Oh well...I can go on and on with dumb, but you get the point. This type of crap is in the news every, single day. People try to figure out why. There's no secret. These people are just dumb. Let's call them random acts of dumbness. That's my 2 cents (and it's probably only worth 1).

Sorry. I see that you were Federal Way specific. I was talking general above. My apologies. My only explanation is that there is a higher concentration of dumb moving there??????

Those people displaced by Tacoma's gentrification have to move somewhere. Why not a bedroom community with cheap rent from too many aging apartments and a suburban police force unprepared for urban crime?

Federal Way's struggle is that it got city problems without ever being a city. Where is downtown Federal Way? Where is the community center? It's hard to build a community when you have a series of winding cul-de-sacs dissected by highways and an interstate, dotted with islands of strip-malls. Add a transient population lured by cheap rents from over-building and you're left with a great argument for growth-management.

(This post was originally longer and better thought out, but was tragically snatched by the invisible post-eating monster)
