I have long considered Cobain to be a musical genius- right along with Lennon, McCartney and Beethoven. Cobain was the originator of a whole new sound and it is too bad he died early in life.
Are there any sites in Seattle that tourist can go to that are dedicated to Cobain and Nirvana? Maybe his childhood home or even a museum focused on his life and work? I Googled but really couldn't find much. It would seem to me that Seattle would want to memorialize him.

Hi Kevk. There are tours organized around exactly what you asked about. For doing it on your own, there's the house in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle where he and Courtney lived, where he ended his life. The Crocodile Cafe. The addresses are available on the internet. Sub Pop's website will give you their address. You might want to take a good biography, note down the locations, and find their addresses by Googling. Here are the bios considered best:
  • Azerrad, Michael. Come as You Are: The Story of Nirvana. Doubleday, 1994. ISBN 0-385-47199-8.
  • Burlingame, Jeff. Kurt Cobain: Oh Well, Whatever, Nevermind. Enslow, 2006. ISBN 0-7660-2426-1
  • Cross, Charles. Heavier Than Heaven: A Biography of Kurt Cobain. Hyperion, 2001. ISBN 0-7868-8402-9.
  • Summers, Kim. "Kurt Cobain". Allmusic. Accessed on May 9, 2005.
  • Kitts, Jeff, et al. Guitar World Presents Nirvana and the Grunge Revolution. Hal Leonard, 1998. ISBN 0-79-35900-6X.
Abedeen, WA where he was born, is a small formerly timber town about a two-hour drive south and west of Seattle on the Olympic Peninsula.

I found these by Googling cobain tourism seattle, cobain tours seattle, and cobain tourist seattle. Lots more possibilities came up.

So you'll want to know where Viretta Park is:

I agree about Seattle grunge fading out too early, though Pearl Jam is still around. If you remember they single handedly killed off hair bands. "Rather quickly"! (Seattle grunge)

He wasn't actually from Seattle. Aberdeen is where he grew up. There is a bridge in Aberdeen that he slept under before getting famous. He wrote the song "Something in the way" under that bridge. You can find it on Google.

When entering Aberdeen, the sign says: "Welcome to Aberdeen" and underneath it says "Come as you are."

The Kurt Cobain house in Seattle is in the Madrona neighborhood, north of Madrona Beach park towards Madison Park, just off of Lake Wa Blvd.

The Crocodile Cafe closed last year, Allforcats. I had no idea about its past, I don't think there was ever any music playing the few times I stepped in. Entertainment | Music dies at renowned Crocodile | Seattle Times Newspaper

The OP's question was where to find Cobain sites. Or sights. Crocodile is still standing, signaged, and on the Cobain tours.
