I am planning on visiting seattle this march/april and want to stay in a houseboat for the weekend and lo and behold, this apparently is no longer allowed. You can only rent long term.

What is the 411 on this? And does anyone know if there are any short term houseboat or the like rentals? Thanks.

Hey Yurt, Not to sure about the houseboats but check out craigslist on that. I see all the time people wanting to rent out a liveaboard for a short time. I live in Washington but not in the Seattle area, closer to Bellingham. I would call a local realtor they would be able to direct you better. Good luck. Right now for the right price I am sure someone will take you up on the deal to help pay for their monthly moorage.

The most likely sources of information about houseboat rentals are Realtors who specialize in houseboats.
Houseboats here are extremely expensive. Read that word "extremely" again. Rather than renting out to strangers, it's more usual that when owners are out of town friends will stay and take care of their dog, plants, mail, etc. But check with Realtors just in case.

You might also find a B&B at the water that feels somewhat like a houseboat, especially on Fidalgo Island, Whidbey Island, Vashon Island, Bainbridge Island.

Seattle passed a revision to the shoreline management Act which prohibited short term houseboat rentals. They also shut down a popular tugboat bed and breakfast. Why? I haven't figured that one out yet.
