What do Texans have to be proud of? The majority of the state is flat, brown, no scenery, the major cities outside of Austin have no character. Add to that 5 months of unbearably hot weather and I question why they would even have pride in the first place? Is it because it is big and they wear cowboy hats? I am sorry, but I lived a decade in Texas and found very few reasons to be proud during that time. If anything people in Washington state should have this mentality, their state is the one with the beauty and character, not Texas.
Wow, you sound like quite the authority on Texas. What are your credentials? If people take pride in their state, regardless of where it is, that is probably a good thing because they will be interested in making it a better place.
Than tell those people to get off line and turn their computer off and try making friends and meeting people. Trust me, compared to Jersey, Seattle would be paradise (I move there from Jersey this November)

Mrs. Traveller
I just question what they are proud of. I heard this during my 10 years in Texas all the time, saw bumper stickers, saw T-shirts with this on it, heard radio advertisements all the time. What I didn't hear was why they are proud. In Texas there was this huge ego in which the people thought they were somehow bigger and mightier than all the other states. It wasn't a question of wanting to make the place better, it was moreso about boasting about how great Texas is without really listing a reason why.
I don't question pride in any sense, but as mentioned, please tell me why you have the right to be proud and then i'll stop questioning.

I didn't say I was proud of Texas or even that I ever lived there. I was just saying that people have the right to take pride in their communities.
People from Texas shouldn't say to themselves "Oh no, the good people of Seattle think we're a bunch of hicks and rednecks and our geography isn't photogenic so therefore we should hang our heads low and hate ourselves and our state."
Your background info gives your opinion more logic. But if you really have an issue with Texas, you should post on the Texas forum.

Can Seattle's "poor dating scene" and "up tight people" compare to that?
That Guido Beach video is absolutely freaking hilarious. I am now fully convinced The Sopranos wasn't fiction but was really a reality show. It would drive me crazy to be around people like that for long.

Ive lived in Seattle most of my life and every year I want to move What keeps me here is my family and friends.
I hate the weather yes. I love when its summer b/c I get to appreciate Seattle more.
I live in a very diverse neighborhood and live exactly where I want to. Things are very close by and I realize its hard to find these things sometimes.
I would encourage you to just come and visit or if you can come live here for a year to see what its like.
I've had many good friends(couples) who lived here, hated the city, but prolonged moving b/c they had some great friends. It was hard to see them leave, but their reasons were the cost of buying a home and the lack of sunshine. This is not just one set of friends this is like 6 sets of friends.
Mostly that is the reason I stay. For all my good friends and family and my 80's dance group I run My husband and I are thinking about checking out Austin TX or Sonoma,CA.
Who knows
Back on the "Washingtonians talk about moving to Arizona" topic, there are a lot of you here in Phoenix right now (I've seen a lot more Washington and Oregon plates on the freeway than usual) but I reckon that'll dry up in a few weeks when the temperature starts creeping toward 100 degrees.
Conversely, there seems to be a lot of people who move to Seattle from Arizona and vice versa.
Are you near a military base? There are a lot of Ft. Lewis soldiers down in AZ at times. I suspect what you are most likely seeing are 'snowbirds'....
