Reasonable accomodations on Puget Sound/Seattle Outskirts
Hello all,
We are two adults seeking a hotel or motel within a half-hour's drive to Downtown Seattle for a four-night stay over a long weekend in June. We prefer to stay north of the City, near the water, in a suburbarn or smaller city or town - away from the hustle and bustle - and will drive into Seattle and the wine country, etc. to do day trips and sightsee. B & Bs don't work for us.
Can anyone recommend a clean, relatively quiet place with free parking, accessible to shops and restaurants that is less than $150 in total, including taxes, per night?
I've heard that Edmonds is a good location, but have heard differing opnions about the Best Western Harbor Inn - some good due to its location, some pretty bad. Mukilteo has also been suggested - the Extended Stay America in particular. Another suggestion was the Port Gardner Inn in Everett.
I realize I'm being pointed in the right direction, and wonder if anyone else has any suggestions?
If anyone has any "don't miss" restaurant suggestions (seafood in particular) in any of the cities mentioned above, that would also be appreciated.
Thanks in advance and have a good day!

LOL. I read Reasonable Accommodations and thought you meant as it accommodating special needs... too much legal training. Wish I could make a suggestion but don't know of anything near water for $150/night.

The Silver Cloud Inn at Mukilteo has an average rate of $169 a night for a for a random Friday-Tuesday stay in June. Total would be $750 with tax. Maybe ask them if they can cut you a deal to get the price down a bit?

I kind of feel you're asking for the moon -- we hold our shorelines precious, so the land and buildings at the water tend to be expensive. I question if you'll find a motel at "the water" for the price you mention.
Staying overnight in a town more than about 10 miles from downtown Seattle might seem like a neat way around that, but you have to factor in the long drive to Seattle and then back to the town. It's a lot of driving in an area you don't know, not an ideal vacation situation, eh? The drive will be slower in June because the weather here is less rainy then and therefore lots of road repair, road construction and bridge maintenance projects are underway every day. I've experienced delays of up to an hour in June, July and August due to construction.
If you choose to stay north of Seattle, I wouldn't go farther than Edmonds. Mukilteo, for exmple, will be close to an hour's drive, without construction, to DT Seattle. Edmonds is a sweet and pretty residential town, not known for restaurant food. The seafood restaurants where you'll have food to remember are in Seattle.

Seattle pretty much stops its "hustle and bustle" by about 10PM. You might consider staying in Seattle not near the water, and spend your days near the water if you wish to. Daylight would also enable you to actually see the water, the islands, the skyline, the ships, and so forth. Part of that fun could be to take a ferry to Bainbridge Island or to Bremerton (they both leave from the same pier in downtown Seattle) which will give you some true water experience here. A delightful alternative might be Kirkland, on the east side of Lake Washington. Lovely places to stay, excellent seafood restaurants, and a huge, very deep glacial lake to commune with.
Have you researched prices and locations in TripAdvisor? That's the world's leading resource for traveling everywhere. This link will open to the general Seattle page, and the far left column contains all the links you'll want -- including accommodations with prices, arranged according to how much travelers enjoyed their stays there.

Fairmont in June $216
W $172
Westin $208
The Woodmark in Kirkland is $160 something, thats on the water...all found on Expedia.
All well worth the extra couple bucks for what you would save in gas and headaches, Im sure there are more with a little hunting. Why not splurge and do the Edgewater one night?
The idea of a romantic or cozy hotel/motel (assumption) only 30 minutes from SEA on the water is perhaps a stretch, unless the Red Roof in Des Moines counts...(kidding)
Enjoy Seattle!!

La Quintas are great.... but I stayed at the Courtyard on Lake Union when I took my vacation here in 05. Worked really well for everything.

I stayed at the Edgewater for a week earlier this month for $75/night. They apparently use priceline for their extra rooms. You might want to give this a shot. The only downside is that the parking at the hotel is $35/day and is valet only. If you want to walk a block there's a giant parking garage across the street for $16/day.

Besides the OP wanted something near the water, not near Aurora Avenue. And I love that they call it "northgate" when it is in fact all the way up on 135th and Stone way (near the hazardous waste dumping site and the housing authority) Nice place
