Smile Transit options from Port Orchard

I am moving to Port Orchard and I will be working in downtown Seattle.
What are my options and transit times?
Thank you in advance for your replies.

Southworth ferry to Vashon, and then Vashon passenger only boat to downtown, or Southworth Ferry to Fauntleroy( West Seattle) and the bus to downtown from there?

The best way i know of is to get a motorcycle. No insurance required, ferry fare is cheap and you don't have to wait in line, or for public transit.

When I worked downtown Seattle I tried three options.

Ferry Bremerton* to Seattle and walk to work. There is also a free bus from Ferry terminal to anywhere in downtown area. [*I like to take the small Kitsap ferry from Port Orchard over to the Bremerton ferry terminal but you can drive over to Bremerton and park there]

Ferry Southworth (Port Orchard) to Fauntleroy (South Seattle) and bus to downtown Seattle.

Drive to Tacoma Dome (1/2 hour) and take Train to downtown Seattle.

Personally I ended up liking the train option best. I LOVE riding the ferry but the times did not always work out well which added to my time away from family. The ferries and the bus have wi-fi which allows you to get a lot of work done on your computer. I found reading much more enjoyable. Either commute is actually relaxing, if the time involved isn't an issue with your home life. You can plan on 1 1/2 hour each way.

This is the best if you value your time, I commuted from Port Orchard for years, did all the routes imaginable. I'd budget 2 to 2.5 hours each way door to door. Really depends which specific boat, time leaving work, etc.

Motorcycle is the best, no waiting in line, no missing the boat, relatively cheap, car pool lane on the seattle side (highway), etc. The only real drawback is the weather, but it's Seattle, get a good rain suit.

Either way, good luck, commuting from PO takes longer than most anywhere else due to logistics.

Tony
