Im not suprised.
Seattle was a fashionable place for longer than it was a drab hiking gear-as-daily-wear city. The Bauer/REI/Gore-Tex craze was a Boomer trend that will fizzle out and pull the companies down from conglomerates into something more like Filson where they belong.
The up and coming generations are more upscale-oriented, IMO.

How bad does it have to get before companies start shutting down in massive numbers? I have never heard of it getting so bad to where companies are considering calling it quits.

Based on what I see every day on the streets and buses of Seattle, I have concluded that at least half the local population typically has that little North Face logo patch on their rear shoulder.  |

Are you kidding me? You see REI shutting down someday? Most of the people I know in this city get half their wardrobe from REI. We'd all be naked and darn cold in Seattle!
