Default Seattle WA questions

Hi everyone! ! am a 26 year old female looking at pharmacy schools to go to. I have a few narrowed down (seattle WA, missoula MT, morgantown WV, corvallis, OR) but I have a few questions to ask if anyone can help!

1. I am not worried about finding a job for myself, as I can transfer to a Walgreens. My husband doesn't have a college degree, but he is a hard worker and learns quickly so I want to see if he will have a hard time finding a job. He has experience in landscaping and maintenance. He knows how to work on cars, but he is not certified, and he also knows how to do electrical work, but again, no license.

2. I want to make sure we will "fit in" as we won't know anyone there. We both have tattoos/piercings (but we are not the freaky looking tattoed/pierced, everything can be and is covered up for work, people are actually surprised when I tell them how many I have!), listen to punk and psychobilly music, like classic cars and hot rods/rat rods, dogs, good food (especially mexican) and being outdoors. So I guess my question is about what people do for fun, and if there will people into the same things we are. Are there concerts to go to, local bands, and classic car shows?

3. Sports is a major thing for us. My husband has to be able to go to baseball games, and hang out in sports bars sometimes, so what is the sports scene like?

Obviously the most important things are crime, cost of living and things like that, but I can look up the statistics of those, unless someone has something really bad to say about any of these places, or something they think I should know, I would appreciate it!

Thanks in advance!

It seems if your "husband has to be able to go to baseball games" and you're discussing major league baseball, your decision is made for you ... Seattle. And I think it meets all your other needs too.

UW Pharmacy school is highly respected. My 'ol pal the late George Benson, former Seattle City Councilman, and former president of the National Assn of Retail Druggists and National Community Pharmacy Assn has a scholarship there in his name and also helped preserve the medicinal herb garden there.

I'd say Seattle. There's probably going to be more opportunities for you and your husband here than the other places you listed (and you're going to have to try harder than that to shock anybody with your body art unless you're on Eastside).

As for classic car shows, do a search on "XXX Root Beer" and take a look at that. It's nearby.

I would think you would fit in well in Seattle, especially if you're into sports. Seattle has a pro football, baseball, and soccer team, and is a big part of the city. As for the tattoo's and the punk/rock style, you'll just be like many others in the city, although as somebody said you might stand out more in the eastside. I know UW pharm school has an excellent reputation and there are walgreens' all over the place. As for your husband, I think Seattle in general caters more to college grads since it's a very well educated city, but there are many jobs available. Good luck

Are college sports OK with your husband, or does he want pro?

Witht the tattoos, you will fit in fine.

The sports bar scene in Seattle is awful, if you are used to the scene in any one of the other 30+ major league cities. You actually have to tell the bartenders in Seattle sports bars to turn the local hometown games on.

My advice, since you're asking:

1. Pick the school that you think will be best for you, look at the school primarily.
2. "Fitting in" Hidden tattoos: I also have tattoos (easily covered by wearing a short sleeved shirt) and did not find that a factor one way or the other when it comes to "fitting in." Visible tattoos and piercings, however: very socially acceptable in most social demographics in Seattle. Taste in music, cars, etc -- You will probably find bars and other music venues that cater to your taste in Seattle. Car hobbiests, etc: you will probably find that here, but not more than any other major city. Dogs: yeah, your dog will be pretty much regarded more highly than most people in Seattle. Very "dog friendly." People tend learn the dogs' names before they learn the owners' names at the numerous dog parks, etc, in Seattle.
3. Sports: depends on the sport: Pro football and baseball in Seattle, check. Pro basketball and hockey in Seattle, not check.

That's about all I can tell you based on the info you provided.

The world's largest car museum is being built 35 minutes south of Seattle in Tacoma if that helps: LeMay America's Car Museum
