Seattle's principal form of public transportation is its bus system.
Metro Online Home Page
They are building light rail from central downtown Seattle to the airport.
Light Rail is on its Way
There is the South Lake Union Trolley:
SDOT: Seattle's Streetcar Network
Hope this helps.

The ferries are also an integral part of the transit picture, to and from Seattle.

What about Sound Transit?
I see that there are stations all along the way from Tacoma to Everett, but when locals answer questions having to do with public transportation, there is no mention of Sound Transit.
How come?

I ride a Sound Transit bus everyday. The Park and Ride is about 1/2 mile from my home, and the bus drops me off about 1000 feet from my office. It's clean, safe, reliable and a pass costs $90 a month.

The aforementioned light rail is part of Sound Transit. In answer to your question, it probably depends on which locals you're talking about. For those who live and work within Seattle proper, Sound Transit is probably a a second thought...

It's interesting to me that the light rail was mentioned before the bus system. Geez, go anywhere north or south of Seattle proper and within the city, and those white buses dominate the landscape. For me, the rail is incredibly inconvenient. Unfortunately, because I do love riding the train.

The King County Metro buses dominate along my usual route, which is basically downtown Seattle to Renton. You mentioned bus color - until recently I hadn't noticed that some of Metro's buses are green, while others are blue or kind of a teal?
I do take a Sound Transit bus from Seattle to Bellevue from time to time. I need to try the Sounder from Tukwila sometime, just for the heck of it.
The Seattle bus tunnel will have a new look next month, with buses and trains sharing it.
