Question Kirkland- what do you think?

Ok, since several of you have posted recently that you have lived a considerable time in Kirkland, can you give me the good, bad, and ugly?
I have not been in the area often or recently, especially since having a child.
We are looking at a potential commute to NOAA on Sandpoint NE and houses maybe in the 500,000 range (older, maintained house good, newer cookie cutters stacked together not good). Schools? Other input?
We are looking into other areas, as I have posted previously, just have not explored this yet. Thanks.
