How is the art scene in Seattle? For an oil painter (income, living)

I am considering moving to Seattle from LA. I am getting sick of the people in LA - the poverty, and the rude idiots.. The Bay Area is too um, political for me - or what's the word - intellectual?

For one, do you have another income source? If not then unless you're really famous and sell well then you'll likely live in poverty here. Cost of living is nearly on par with LA.

If the Bay area is too intellectual, Seattle may not be your cup of tea either. People here typically don't talk politics unless someone else starts it up, though.

Anyways, for art, you'll have a lot of competition. There are a lot of art galleries in Seattle and many artists and more galleries in the San Juan islands.
