Samaara is on a distinguished road
I used to live in Sammamish and would commute to Redmond/Kirkland. I thought is was ok. About 45 minutes to an hour in the morning and evening. But i didn't mind it. UNTIL I moved closer then I realized how amazing it is to live so close to work but still feel like you are nowhere near a city. My husband and kids and myself can even spend more time together now because we aren't spending two hours out of our day driving.

Easy rules of thumb for eastside commuting:

1. Stay away from I-405. Pretend it doesn't exist.
2. If you have to take a bridge to Seattle, take I-90 if you can.
3. Don't commute North-South if you can help it (easier said than done).
4. There are no reliable short-cuts. The system is balanced out between traffic and stop lights to ensure all paths take an equal amount of time.
5. Add 5 minutes to your commute time for every 4 hours of sunshine that day.
6. Add another 5 if it's a Friday and it's sunny out.
7. Add 10 minutes if it's raining out.
8. The traffic before 8:15am and after 6:30pm is considerably better than it is even 10 minutes later/earlier.

Another area you could look at potentially would be Woodinville, but I think you'll find plenty enough in Kirkland as it is.
