Issaquah to Kirkland?
Hi, I am relocating to Seattle area this month and was thinking about renting in Issaquah. I will be working in Kirkland. Does this commute make sense?
Google traffic map seems to always show green for I90 route.
Whats attracting me to Issaquah is the (relatively) affordable rents and close proximity to parks.

No. Going I90 will be a little backed up, but then going up 405 will be a nightmare. Going the other way, up East Lake Sam PKWY is just as bad also due to all the Micosoft people going that way. Your best bet is to live in Kirkland, Redmond, or Northern Bellevue.

I agree with Pittgal. I live on the north end of Issaquah, south end of Sammamish right off of East Lake Samm and there is no fast way to get to Kirkland in rush hour from here. Redmond would be a good compromise in my mind as you are close to Marymoor Park and the Sammamish River Trail. It will be about a 20 minute drive from Redmond to the Tiger Mtn trail heads...which maybe you'll do mostly on weekends. But shoot, you'll be commuting everyday of the work week.

My husband does the opposite commute (Kirkland to Issaquah), and it takes anywhere from 25-45 minutes. Getting through Bellevue on I-90 and 405 is a ***** in both directions.
There's reasonable rents in Kirkland, Bellevue and Redmond, all of which would be closer like pittgal said. I can see the attraction to being near Cougar/Squak/Tiger Mountains, but theoretically you go to work a lot more often than you will go hiking.

Beyond that, Issaquah is a speed trap, why would you want to live in one of those? When I go to Seattle, I drive right by Issaquah, I don't stop.
Find something in or close to Kirkland. IMHO.

Hey, kinda sounds like Issaquah's getting a bum rap here. It's a great suburb and an easy commute -- just not a North/South commute e.g. to Kirkland due to I-405.
I commute daily to downtown Seattle and it's a piece of cake, straight shot along I-90. If you travel during rush hour (7-9am, 5-6pm) it can take about 30-40 minutes to do the 17 miles as the crow flies. But if you stagger your times slightly (I leave at 9:30am for downtown and 6:30pm for Issaquah) you can do it in 20 minutes.
Easy mass transit options too.

I lived in Kenmore, at the north end of Kirkland's border, and found NO Problems getting into Kirkland -- I used the bus quite often, when I had a flexible schedule. Juanita and Bothell would also be good alternatives.

Taking a bus from Kirkland to Issaquah takes at least an hour and at least 1 transfer. We looked into it.

Move to Kirkland. it's amazing here and you can find a rental house for pretty cheap if you look hard enough. After a month of searching on craigslist we finally found a home for $1500/mo and 3 bed 2.5 bath all updated with bamboo flours and yardwork included.
The neighborhoods are great. It's beautiful. The water is close. There are SO MANY parks within walking distance. It's just great.
