I have 2 kids and both will be in middle school next year. I plan to move as close to mt ranier as I can for this reason and stay away from the big cities. I dont mind if I have to commute a little more to make sure my kids are safe. So recomend you stay away from big cities and more to the smaller towns.

neacie, I hope you realize Mt. Rainier is an active volcano, and towns in surrounding valleys are vulnerable to lahars.

I have lived in Washington most of my life having moved here from NE when I was 9. I am now 76. Spent 4 years traveling in the military and 8 years in Apple Valley, MN. One thing no one has mentioned to this point is that the climate of the entire world is changing, drastically in some places more than others. Predicting what WA weather is going to be like is going to be very difficult. During el Ninos we have had warmer and drier winters several times. This November it looks like we'll set a new record for rain. Right now it is snowing in the Cascades and the Olympics like crazy and that is quite early for that to happen. No matter where you choose to move, you're going to be taking your chances. Good luck. BTW, I have lived in Des Moines, WA most of my adult life and love it here.
