mod cut:

Well, since we're comparing to Indy, I might mention that I worked in very similar office environment in both cities and in Indy, i had absolutely no social contact with any of my co-workers other than an ocassional lunch outing once a month or so whereas in Seattle, I've hung out a lot more with my office mates - things such as sports events, going to the gym together, dinners, movies, bars, etc.. It just came to me as I was sitting in a meeting this morning for one of our projects and looking around the room. People here really are more friendly and social

I'm a hiring supervisor and can lend some thoughts. Please keep in mind I'm only replying to PW72's query so please don't ask if I have an open position.

When considering an applicant, my concerns are:
- Is the candidate qualified
- Is the candidate reliable
- Is the candidate capable
- Is the candidate committed

I've found that people demonstrate these traits easier when they reside in the area then from out of town. I've attempted to contact out-of-state candidates in the past to arrange interviews only to never receive a return communication. It is difficult to compete with local residents when you're not sure you can make the interview. But you never know unless you return the call.

I think it's easier to sell your self to a potential employer if you are easily available to prove the above qualities. Basically - Impress me!

If you think you can successfully market to 1/2 the profiles here, then I think you can make it in Seattle.

We're a Lot Like You: PEMCO Insurance

(I find it slightly humorous that I'm replying to a posting asking how marketing is in Seattle with a clever and funny marketing ad campaign)
