Good grief! I saw houses I could afford but they were reeeeeeeally small.

There are less expensive areas where people have horses, like Maple Valley, Issaquah, and the eastern highlands of Renton.

Wow. I checked those locations and there were places I could afford but none with much land. I'm amazed at the prices. I saw, and this is the one that got me, a mobile home on 2 acres that was priced higher than what I paid for my house, barn, and 15 acres.

Makes me wonder what they pay programmers there...I'll have to take a look out of curosity.

WW. I just moved from Canal Winchester about 4 weeks ago to the Kirkland. I got sticker shock from the housing, but as I'm here pretty much the cost of living is comparable to OH. And when you factor in no state/city-resident/city-non resident/school income taxes you save nearly 10% on your paycheck. They'll try and get it through a 9.5% sales tax and other non-tax ways, but it does make a difference in that take home. If you enjoy the outdoors like me, Ohio cannot compare in the least bit to WA, so much so that I truly am having a hard time recalling living anywhere else.

Find a job first, but don't let housing stand in you way. I am SOOO glad I didn't let it in mine.

I know it's gorgeous there. No doubt about that. They don't skimp on programmer pay either...I did a search through Career Builder to see. Though I don't want to have to do that forever.
