It seems like here (I haven't been here a year yet) you can wear pretty much what you like and no one seems to notice. Maybe they do some kind of behind-your-back talk ala "freeze" thing, but really I like the fact that you can dress up or down and not get stares. I literally saw a woman in a mink jacket last winter in a grocery store and I was the only one who noticed, I swear... Yesterday I saw a young woman walking down a street in downtown Bellevue who looked like she just stepped off a runway, and didn't turn heads. (except mine, of course--how did she pull off that huge gold bag?) I've seen similiar things in downtown Seattle. I love fashion, though I don't have the money or the courage to wear any of it, but I think someone who likes dressing up wouldn't feel out of place here. Not like a lot of places, where you wait months for an excuse to wear something very stylish. Of course, some neighborhoods attract more of this than others; Bellevue is supposed to be "rich" though my experience is that most of the people on the street don't look like it. The post above is right-on about particular neighborhoods.

Just don't expect anyone to care, of course...must be a Seattle thing!

You are so right. That is one thing I love about it, nobody cares what they wear or what you wear.....totally laid back.....I personally don't care what people think about what I have on anyway, to be honest.

I love the fact that there is no 'shallow' feeling. I hate shallowness.......
