Silly question about dress in Seattle
So I'm headed towards Seattle and thanks to some things I've heard I'm worried about dress (I'm a college aged female, btw):
1.) Do college aged girls there really wear spandex shorts in public, even when not working out? If so, what kind of tops do they wear with them? What kind of shoes? (I'm really hoping you'll tell me the spandex thing doesn't happen...)
2.) Do people dress down everywhere? Would I be overdressed in heels? What about a dress and heels - would that be ok in most resturants or would I stand out in a bad way?
3.) How do most people dress in general? Are there a lot of hipsters? (Meaning tight pants and neon high tops.)
Sorry, I know these are shallow, stupid questions but I still felt the need to ask them...

Here's a link to UW web cams. Maybe you'll get an idea how kids dress from that.
Web Cams
I have college age kids and it looks like everyone has their own style. They only wear heels when they are going out someplace nice.

Seattle is a bigger city so you will see anything and everything. The North Face is a very common label in town. The few times I have been on campus, the kids look like college kids so no one fashion trend stood out to me. Lots of jeans, Keens and fleece in Seattle too. Not sure about your spandex shorts comment. Much of time it's colder here so people don't wear shorts regularly. Seattle is a pretty active city though and lots of people use their bikes to get around so it's possible there is a reason they are wearing tight spandex shorts.

Spandex shorts? haha Damn I wish!
In-city post-college girls tend to be more on the trendy side or hipster-y side. The ones that come from the 'burbs tend to live in their identical North Face fleece jackets.

While it is true that many in Seattle tend to dress down a bit, you will absolutely see girls in heels and fancy expensive designer clothes, men in suits, etc. Capitol Hill tends to be a bit "hipstery" while Belltown, Ballard, and Queen Anne tend to be more yuppie-ish.
Have no idea where you got the "spandex" thing from.

Its gotta be from all the bikers. They're the only ones who wear spandex shorts out and about and are comfortable about it.
Unless you're talking about this style of wearing spandex-y type short leggings under a tunic?

Thanks for the advice, you guys. I really like the campus cam idea - never would have thought of that!
As for the spandex thing... my friend swore up and down that almost all the girls he's seen out there have been just walking around in spandex shorts, but now I'm thinking he just wanted me to look ridiculous... thanks for the help!

I like the laid back dressing in Seattle..I fit right in.....I wore flip flops most of the time, except in the winter...even in the drizzling rain...Even on some cold days I had on flip flops......lol!!!...Except when it was snowing and down in the 30's..But when in the 40's and up, I wore flip flops most of the time..and a light sweater every now and then...
Well, I do love the cold...It feels so good..Seattle cold is nothing like the east coast cold at all..It is COOL, perfect............except when it is in the 30's..then again, it depends on your body...Coming from Florida, I think I have a warm body temp and I just enjoy cool weather better period...

lots of laid back dressing here flannels jeans and other comfy things
and yes young girls here do wear spandex in public. i got to say its not as weird as you might think they usually wear a long shirt with it so as to cover there lower parts.
