Look into West Seattle also. It is more contained similar to ballard but a really quick commute downtown and has a rising "bar scene" with more younger people moving in. It has a lot of diversity within a small area with many different types of people and is home to Alki Beach with is very active on nice days.

Thanks.
Seattle's not really bad at all. Pioneer Square and Central and First Hill and South Seattle have the most homeless and crime happens there, but compared to other areas of places I've seen like in San Francisco and Oakland and what I've heard of other places like NY & LA, Seattle doesn't compare.

Seattle does not have a great track record with the homeless- it's much worse the NYC ever was in my lifetime. I had a few NY tourists ask me about it or overheard their comments. They were very shocked at the shear number and apathy surrounding thier plight.

Since I lived in the downtown, I saw it everyday and well, they were my neighbors so I got to know quite a few of them. Most were harmless.

The tenderloin in San Francisco was a pretty bad area to walk through. Lots of homeless standing around. Although only a couple actually asked for change.

One a side note, the east side of Cleveland has some REALLY bad areas.

When I was in Seattle, it all seemed pretty tame compared to here in Cleve., or San Fran.
