I figured as much. I just moved to this neighborhood (and Seattle) in November, but had figured it must be at or near the top of liberal neighborhoods in Seattle. Especially since the most liberal cities in conservative states like Kansas and Iowa are college towns like Lawrence and Iowa City - it would make sense for the U District to be one of the most liberal neighborhoods in Seattle (examples are all relative, of course).

I am not very liberal but I am not very conservative.. Same for my hubby. But we also tend to keep to ourselves about most things.... And I don't discuss politics with anyone but my hubby anyways ..we tend to argue about some views. He use to be very very very liberal, but he's a truck driver, and I keep telling him there poisioning his mind...

We are moving to Seattle in June. But will be there May 16 til June.. My husband is donating a kidney to a man and his sugery is at UW. I can't wait to be back in Seattle.

We live in TN right now, and the way things are here, I can barely stomach it sometimes. There is no seperation of church and school here. They sing bible songs in school, preach Jesus ( I am a christian but it find an offensive when there could be other beliefs in the classroom) we came from Myrtle Beach which was a lot more liberal, then TN is.

I am actually excited to be away from the in your face republicans that my life is consumed by.. I don't care how people believe, but I am not pushing my beliefs onto anyone. Just how I am.

Seattle is quite liberal. But so long as you do not try to foist your ideals on others, you will be cool.[/quote]

Agreed. Foisting political and fiscal ideas are only allowed for liberals here.

ummm...i hope your children are in private school because that's, how do we say, ILLEGAL. i would actually sue, but in parts of tenn you might find it suprising that the courts might not actually side with you. good luck with that and glad to here you're escaping soon!

But I see most of the Seattle liberals as similar to myself: live and let live.
Of course, if I'm in a restaurant and overhear loud talking at the next table full of intolerant, racist talk, praising Neo-Nazis or bashing the poor, labeling Obama a socialist, I'd be tempted to say something. But I'm more likely to mutter under my breath as I leave. That's the Seattle way.
There were talking about growing up in TX as a kid and then joining the military. Fighting for freedom. My dad and FIL were talking about how both of their dads were in WWII and how my grandfather brought back a gun (Japanese) from were he was fighting, and this liberal woman got in his face about how war was murder (never mind the murder that happened at Peral Harbor) and how America had no right to fight back because we killed innocent people. And the other time we had children eating with us and these guys were talking about cutting off the heads of every Republican (using very colorfull language) around kids. Real mature. Because that does what? What does that kind of hateful talk do?

We liberal Seattlites tolerate a lot of things. Even parasite-infested brains of hippie cat ladies like your pro-Imperial Japan lady there and your general douchebags like your conservative decapitator people.

Seriously, all 90% of us want is to be able to get brunch on a Sunday without being told we're going to hell. We want to expect that our food is mostly local and not pumped up with chemicals. We want our gay buddy to hang out with us without being called gay by association. We want to be able to use public transit so we can use our money on more importnant things. We want to be able to read books and gain knowledge in a city where its considered a virtue to do so. And dark beer. Thats all.

Pretty interesting choice of topics for dinner discussion. Is dessert/disembowlment still the favorite way to cap off a meal?

And occasional sunbreaks. So we all don't turn into a bunch of cat stranglers.
