Default Ex Douglas worker turned computer geek is Seattle right for me?

I work at McDonnell Douglas on the MD-11/MD-80 and C-17 line and am an Air Force veteran C-141 crew chief. I love airplanes and computers, and Seattle is talk en to me. I am learning computers, but woulden't mind working for Boeing on the line again when times are better.

Default How many Boeing workers here?

How is it working for Boeing?
I worked for Douglas during the Boeing buy out of Douglas and I love my job but hated the union BS, it was a necessary evil as you pretty much had to join or they mad life rough for you.
I woulden't expect life at Boeing to be all perfect ether as when I worked at Douglas no body wanted to help you out much and they would always take you're highlift and even steal you're tools, but other than that I miss that job.

Boeing production will be moving to South Carolina, I believe, sooner than anyone can believe. The employees in Seattle have been going on strike a lot. You might look into South Carolina.

I think they will build the 787 there, but the rest of the production will be in Seattle for now.

If you've turned into a computer geek you may want to consider the computer tech arena. Also, if you don't want to put up with the Boeing union, you can try your hand in working for a subcontractor for Boeing. I wouldn't try doing direct contract right now because Boeing is laying off contractors, but say if you work for the company making the CNC machines for Boeing, you have a shot.

I am thinking it might be time to move on and pursue a computer career as it seems to have a brighter future, though I still love aircraft, maybe it isn't the best choice, not that computers will be easy, but there is a better and brighter future.
