Default mukilteo vs mill creek

hello again
thanks for posting on these boards...they are very helpful...looking for some opinions again...DH is working in Everett and we originally decided to focus on kirkland and redmond but the commute is really a drag to us so now we are considering refocusing on either Harbour Pointe in Mukilteo or the planned community within Mill Creek...not sure about this...he says that a lot of his coworkers like it there...and the elementary school (mill creek and the middle school seem quite good)...any opinions about these two areas? I prefer Harbour point b/c it feels more "seattley" with the views of the sound, etc...it seems like quite a little bubble but I am ok with that...I have not been to this planned community in Mill creek and would appreciate feedback about it
thanks
theresa

Hi again, Theresa.

When I think of Harbour Pointe, for some reason I have visualizations of a retirement/assisted living community. Is that where you're thinking of living? Or would it be the area immediately around it?

Yes, I agree, that area in general is nice and I'd probably prefer it to Mill Creek. Aren't there several planned communities in Mill Creek? No matter which one, it'll probably be fine but I still like that area around Harbour Pointe.

Just my opinion.

Thanks.

thanks 'rocco

Harbour pointe is actually a large planned community with schools etc within the development.....very pretty and somewhat self contained....seems nice...not getting as good a vibe about mill creek

Mukilteo is for the wealthy of Everett, who aren't already living in Edmonds. Plenty of young families in Mukilteo not just retirees. If I could afford it I would choose Mukilteo over Mill Creek because it is closer to the water and the views are better. The main downfall to Mill Creek is the traffic, while the commute might better than coming from Redmond, daily driving around the area is not good IMO.

Both neighborhoods are nice. Harbour Pointe has the better commute, and yes, the sound views. It also get more air-traffic noise from Paine Field. Both have good schools. Mill Creek has more to offer in terms of shopping and dining in-town. It just depends on which you like better.

I just moved from Mill Creek (now on the East Coast) and loved it there. I did not see the traffic as an issue. My husband also worked in Everett and found it an easy commute. I worked in Seattle and usually had a 45-60 minute commute time.
We looked in Mulkiteo and simply did not find anything we liked at the time but I loved that area as well and would have lived there in a heartbeat.

Mill Creek was begun as an exclusive planned development, centered around the golf course and country club. That community is on top of the hill. As the area has grown, it incorporated and branched out it's boundaries. But the planned community, CC&Rs, walking trails, etc, is still there. It's schools are in the neighborhood, as well. So there is the development of Mill Creek and the town of Mill Creek. They're not one and the same.

thanks for the info...so if I was simply interested in the mill creek planned community how would I know if the house I was looking at was in it? By the elementary school? I am really leaning toward harbour pointe which I have actually seen and DH is the one really interested in it b/c coworkers have reccomended it so I am trying to be open...what are the pluses to the mill creek planned community...walk to shops at all...close to restaurants or more like Harbour pointe which has the schools within it and has some basic shopping nearby and then another 10 minutes to the alderwood mall area..
Theresa
