Exclamation Any job fairs or anything like that? Need employment soon!!!

So far I've had absolutely no luck finding a decent job around here. I've tried many things from craigslist.org, yahoo hotjobs and all that good stuff but never get any responses. I would like to find something like a job fair, but I haven't found any going on recently. Is there any hiring events going on anywhere?

The last thing I've done today was fill out an application and went through an interview for a bartender/cook position. Only 2 positions were available for each and at least 14 other people applied for it as well. Chances are I won't be getting that.

This is how bad my situation has gotten (trust me, I didn't allow it to get this way). At this point I have no money. Since I have no money, I can't pay rent. If I can't pay rent, then I have to leave (this week). All I have left of any real value (besides my laptop because at this point and I really can't afford to lose this) is my bus pass so I at least have transportation until early next month.

So, what should I do from here? Thanks.

Have you tried using Job Search | one search. all jobs. Indeed Good luck...I'm really sorry. My sister has been unemployed for a year with two kids and without my parents, she would be totally SOL.

What's the deal with employment at places like Tully's? They have a perma-sign up saying they're hiring everything. Always surprises me. I've made it my informal backup backup in case I lose my new job, which looks increasingly likely. Is that a bad plan? I met a girl who has worked at Starbucks since she was in college (they pay her better than she can make with her literature degree!!). She moves around a lot for her husband's job, and every time they move, they transfer her, no problem. She says it's not too hard to get a Starbucks job "if you have a friendly personality! And you do!!"

Are those jobs very hard to get?? Looks like they pay halfway decent... I know it's not really a living wage for a family around here, but maybe a smidge better than McDonald's?

When I was younger restaurants were always looking for waitstaff. At the restaurant I worked at, they'd hire anybody with experience in a restaurant in a minute, because there were a few long-term employees, and everyone else sorta rotated in and out depending on school and family schedules. I know they'd hire somebody, and if it didn't work out, they'd just let them go end of the shift and call the next person on the list. Perhaps a restaurant manager would let you assist for a night for just tips; if you've ever worked in a restaurant before, you might get your foot in the door that way, and as soon as a spot opens up, or they can't fill a shift because someone's sick and everyone else is busy, they'll call. You might just have to pick a few restaurants and call them back every week.

Another thing I know some people are doing is babysitting. They advertise on sittercity.com or just through word of mouth. They are making $15/hr untaxed. If I want to go out on a date with my husband, unless I can find another mom to trade with, I know it's going to cost me $75 just to get out the door for five hours. That's not bad. Works better for women than men, and older more than younger, parents better than non, but it can keep a person quite busy once the word is out. Just takes a little time.

If you're really stuck this week I don't know what to tell ya... nobody's going to pay you enough to pay rent within a week. You might need a new plan. Good luck!

Hey everyone. Thanks for your input. I think I might be in luck today. My landlord knows someone who can get me a job at autozone, so I'll find out tomorrow or Thursday. And it just keeps getting better! I got response from one of Microsoft's companies. They are considering me for a position as a game programmer for Halo!
