It's a giant misnomer. Seatle is a culturally diverse city (not necesarilly racially), but in almost every other aspect. So if you've seen one yuppie city, no, you have not seen them all. Seattle continues to be one of the most unique, diverse cities you will find in North America, with intellectual ideas that run the gamut. If anything "gets my goat", (whatever that really means), is that all Seattle residents share the same beliefs about everything. So NOT true. And one of the things that make Seattle special.
Of course, but Yups set the tone and dominate wherever they are, including Seattle.
Only big american metro with large yup presence that remains a lot of original atmosphere is Twin Cities.

Don't think wingfoot knows what they are talking about but I agree with gentoo. Having lived in both SF, Oakland and Marin Co. I found Seattle to feel a lot like a combo of Berkeley, Sausalito etc.

When I went to Seattle, my friend who's from New England thought it reminded her of Boston. I've mentioned before that it reminds me of Berkeley Ca. Here are my reasons why:

This is College and Alcatraz Avenues right at the city limits of Oakland and Berkeley, taken in Berkeley. It reminds me of the intersection of 5th and Mercer looking west. But here, I'm looking south.

Tie-die stands are common in both cities.

Tree-lined residential streets look quite similar

And many houses have that "New England-esque" look. This is all Berkeley

So what city have you all been to that reminds you of Seattle?
Boston. Except minus the drivers with their heads out their window pointing and cussing.

Gotham. Except this year we've had a drought and much more sun which has been nice.

The Hillcrest neighborhood of Little Rock Arkansas reminds me of North Capitol Hill or Madrona. Leafy, hilly, nice old houses with hip stores , kinda artsy.

I live in metro Atlanta, and that is about as far away from Seattle in many ways. With that said, the forests in the rural areas remind me of Seattle. This week it was the weather that reminded me of Seattle. It has been rainy and overcast all week in Atlanta. Today I met some people who moved to Atlanta from Seattle. I found out they were from Seattle because the wife was wearing a Seattle Mariners jacket(of which I am a fan of) and I found out they were from the Seattle area.

No city is even a comparison to Seattle anyway.

Another vote for Boston, especially downtown. The mix of old ("historic"?) with cleaner, modern architecture; clean, chill, intellectual vibe; grown men & women carrying backpacks and riding bikes. I told my buddy from college that, and when he visited here a couple of days ago for the first time, he agreed. "Boston."

that's a compliment, by the way.

San Francisco? Queen Anne?

San Francisco is very dense and urban, with a cosmpolitan vibe and what some have called a "charmingly seedy" character.

Queen Anne is nothing like this. At all. Capitol Hill and downtown are as close to SF as it gets in Seattle, and even then its really not close.
