Thank you to everyone on this board. I am relocating to Seattle from Austin, TX and my excitement has grown from the postings!!!! Leaving tomorrow & driving... should be there around Thursday.

Yes I know, I have done it backwards... I lived in Austin during the hottest summer in history 2009 shatters heat record (http://www.statesman.com/news/content/news/stories/local/2009/08/30/0830heat.html - broken link) and now I'm moving to Seattle for the winter. Must say though... we moved to Austin from Portland 4 yrs ago and after 4 years in the desert summer, I'm looking so forward to the beautiful months of rain in NW winter.

Once again, thanks to all who have offered such great info & photos!!! I'm finally moving back to the PNW where my heart never left!!!!

Live where your heart is.

I grew up in So Calif. I moved to Seattle and wanted back to Calif immediately but stuck it out 5 years.

My friends (who are a couple I know from So Calif.) are in Austin and moved up to Seattle and are loving it (of course they've only been there 4 weeks....)

Did the same trip myself in July 2007. Oh how I miss Chuys and BBQ but oh how I love the mountains, the green and the water!! Welcome back...the fall colors are extraordinary right now...you won't be disappointed!

Sounds like you are prepared for the differences...that is half the battle. If the weather starts to get you down, just keep picturing the beautiful spring and summer that will arrive before you know it! Great luck!

Geez how I envy you... We had to leave Spokane Washington a couple of months ago. We originally lived in Portland and now live in Tulsa Oklahoma. Let's say I am struggling with this. My heart is still in the PNW and I long to be with my fellow west coast neighbors once again.. People here are very different and I don't feel that I fit in at all.

Maybe someday we can return to the beauty of the West Coast once again.. You are so blessed. Enjoy your move and drink in every ounce of the beauty... Like me it may not always be right around the corner so take advantage and siege the moment while it lasts. And just remember...don't ever get into that mindset where you are complaining about the rain because it is the rain that makes the PNW so beautiful and lush!!! Have a great week and pray for me, lol.
