Gun Laws?
This is something I've been looking into even before I moved back here from IN. What are the gun laws like in the Seattle area? How strict are they? The reason I'm asking is because every state has different laws and I don't want to miss any details that could land me in jail or anything like that.
The only weapon I own is a 12 gauge shotgun. It's still in IN, but I do plan on buying some more. Guns I had in mind were the PS90, some standard issue hand guns (maybe a desert eagle or M11), but not much else. I hope nothing I mentioned is illegal. I don't plan on shooting anyone, these are just for self defense (or should I say taking home-land security into my own hands).

Any chance you'll change your mind? It's not like we actually need more guns around here.

Well, for now at least, don't take one into a Seattle park (concealed weapon permit or not). In a final act of incompetence, Mayor Nickels banned all guns in city parks.

Yes, because surely we need more guns in parks, playgrounds and community centers where children play. Can't have enough of those.
Honestly, why would someone need to pack heat in a park?
While the rulling may not stand up in court. I like the idea myself.

I'm not defending gun owners, but, I mean, I see the need for certain exceptions.
Local News | NRA, others take aim at gun ban in Seattle parks | Seattle Times Newspaper
Quote:
One of the plaintiffs in the lawsuit, Winnie Chan, is a Department of Corrections employee who lives and works in Seattle. According to the suit, she often carries her personal concealed weapon when she is not on duty, because she worries that people she encounters in her line of work may retaliate against her. She said she enjoys visiting Seattle parks, but her favorite now has a no-weapons sign.
Another plaintiff, Ray Carter, is a past co-chairman of the Seattle Pride Parade. According to the lawsuit, he said he carries a concealed weapon because he feels, as an openly gay man, he is susceptible to becoming a victim of hate-related crimes.
And Gary Goedecke owns a business at the Pike Place Market and carries a weapon to work. He walks through Victor Steinbrueck Park.

If I had to choose, I'd much rather protect kids myself.

Because I like spending time in parks, and if I'm carrying, having to leave my gun in my car makes both me and my car attractive targets for muggers and thieves, respectively. Alternative argument: if attacked by a couple of would-be muggers, I prefer to call the cops to report a couple of hoodlums running "that direction" instead of having someone call the cops on my behalf when they come across my bleeding body lying on the ground.
I like cops, but cops are not sitting in their cars waiting to intercept attackers before a crime is committed. Nor is there time, should you have your phone ready and call 911 for help. Cops will show up to the crime scene and make a sincere effort to find out who attacked you and charge them. That's a great job for cops, and I'm really, REALLY glad that there are people who can do that, but I don't think that's good enough when it comes to my safety or the safety of my family.
If you want yourself or your wife or your children to be defended from attack, you're going to have to do it yourself (though your wife should also be able to defend herself). If you think that someone else is responsible for your safety, you're incorrect.

The bottom line is, gun legislation empowers criminals because gun laws only restrict law abiding citizens.
The no guns signs at parks just tell criminals "your victims wont be armed."

How do you think the columbine kids got their guns? Not everyone goes through this mysterious black market.
